Mangaluru, May 26: Due to high rainfall in the twin districts a red alert has been sounded and holidays declared. In Dakshina Kannada district the schools and pre-university colleges will remain closed on May 27 and 28. However, in Udupi district only Anganwadis will remain closed on just May 27.
The disaster management authority has taken certain precautions as heavy rain has been pounding the districts for the last few days.
Holiday has been declared for Anganwadis, primary and high schools (including CBSE) and pre university (upto 12th class) colleges in Dakshina Kannada district including government, aided and unaided private schools.

Parents are asked to ensure that children do not go to low lying areas, lakes, sea shore and river sides. The fishermen too have been warned aginst venturing into water. Taluk level officers have been asked to remain at the headquarters compulsorily. Nodal officers appointed for various positions by the district administration have been asked to be alert and respond to public complaints. The tahsildar have been directed to be in constant contact.

As a precautionary measure, both residents and tourists are strictly prohibited from approaching beaches, rivers, and waterfalls and are advised against taking photos and videos in these areas.
