Bengaluru, May 26: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread rainfall accompanied by strong winds across Karnataka until May 28, marking the onset of the monsoon in the state. The forecast affects coastal regions, southern and northern interior districts including Bengaluru, Udupi, and Dakshina Kannada.
Wind speeds are expected to range between 40–60 km/h in several areas. While no specific warning has been issued for Bengaluru, a red alert has been declared for Udupi, Chikkamagaluru, and Shivamogga districts. Dharwad and Belagavi districts are under an orange alert as of Monday.





Weather conditions are expected to ease from Thursday onwards. Though no red alerts are forecasted beyond that, orange and yellow alerts remain in place for the coastal and southern interior regions of Karnataka.
Heavy rain accompanied by winds of 40–50 km/h is expected on Monday in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada, with isolated areas likely to receive extremely heavy rainfall. Tuesday is expected to bring the heaviest rainfall, with a decrease in intensity from Wednesday, the IMD report stated.
In North Karnataka, districts including Belagavi, Dharwad, Bagalkote, Vijayapura, and Gadag are expected to receive heavy rainfall on Monday and Tuesday. Moderate to heavy rainfall is also expected in other northern districts such as Bidar, Haveri, Kalaburagi, Koppal, Raichur, and Yadgir through Wednesday.
The southern interior districts of Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, and Shivamogga will witness intense rainfall, with wind speeds reaching up to 60 km/h till Wednesday. Heavy rainfall is also expected in Mysuru, Hassan, and Mandya. Light to moderate rainfall is likely in Bengaluru and surrounding areas on Monday.
On Tuesday, moderate to heavy rainfall is forecasted for Bengaluru, Mandya, Tumakuru, and Davanagere districts, with several southern districts expected to experience heavy showers on Wednesday. Overall, the IMD predicts moderate to heavy rainfall across all regions of Karnataka, with Bengaluru, Tumakuru, and Ramanagara likely to see persistent heavy rain throughout the week.
