Family dispute led to murder of retired DGP Om Prakash, says wife during probe

Bengaluru, May 25: The sensational murder case of retired DGP Om Prakash, which sent shockwaves across Karnataka, has reached its final stages of investigation. As per the latest developments, family disputes appear to be the motive behind the killing, with his wife Pallavi reportedly confessing key details during interrogation.

The Central Crime Branch (CCB), which is investigating the case, has gathered crucial information from Pallavi. Sources say she levelled a barrage of accusations against her husband, indicating deep-seated resentment stemming from personal and financial disputes within the family.

Allegations of neglect and financial control

Pallavi allegedly told investigators that Om Prakash had been indifferent to her and their daughter. She was reportedly upset that despite their daughter reaching marriageable age, he did not arrange her marriage, leading to repeated quarrels at home.

She also accused him of withholding money from the family, even though they lived in a luxurious house. According to her statement, he exercised complete control over the household finances and rarely gave their daughter money for personal expenses, which further fueled her anger.

Murder followed days of threats

Om Prakash had been staying at his sister Sarita Kumari’s house after a series of heated arguments. However, Pallavi reportedly sent their daughter Krithi to bring him back home. The murder occurred on the same day he returned to their HSR Layout residence, where his blood-soaked body was later discovered on April 20.

Reports suggest Pallavi had been threatening to kill him for nearly a week before the incident.

Career and background

Om Prakash, originally from Champaran district in Bihar, was a 1981-batch IPS officer. He began his career as ASP of Harapanahalli in Vijayanagara district and went on to serve as superintendent of police in Shivamogga, Uttara Kannada, and Chikkamagaluru districts.

He also held key positions in the State Vigilance, Karnataka Lokayukta, Fire and Emergency Services, and CID. He was appointed Director General of Police (DGP) in March 2015.

The investigation into his murder is nearing completion, and further details are expected to emerge as the case proceeds.
