Mangaluru, May 17: The eastern monsoon has intensified along the coastal region of Karnataka, bringing widespread rainfall across the district, including Mangaluru city. The city has been experiencing overcast skies for the past few days.
Heavy rains were reported in various parts of Mangaluru, including Nanthoor, Kadri, Bunts Hostel, Hampankatta, and State Bank areas two days ago. In recent days, rural areas of Dakshina Kannada have also witnessed thunderstorms accompanied by lightning. The meteorological department has issued a forecast indicating the continued impact of the Eastern Monsoon till May 21, with warnings of strong winds, thunder, and lightning in the region.

The Dakshina Kannada district administration has urged residents to take precautionary measures in light of the weather warnings. According to forecasts, the monsoon is expected to officially enter Kerala on May 27 and reach coastal Karnataka during the first week of June.
Unseasonal rains have already begun in the region, leading to cloudy skies and intermittent showers in Mangaluru.
With pre-monsoon showers already making their presence felt, coastal Karnataka is expected to receive good rainfall this year. The meteorological department predicts that the region could experience normal or above-normal rainfall during the upcoming monsoon season, which is expected to set in fully by around June 5.
