Shiv Sena (UBT) slams Trump’s ceasefire role, questions Modi govt

Daijiworld Media Network - Mumbai

Mumbai, May 12: In a fiery editorial in its party mouthpiece Saamana, the Shiv Sena (UBT) has launched a scathing attack on US President Donald Trump, questioning his authority to broker a ceasefire between India and Pakistan and accusing the Indian government of compromising national sovereignty.

The editorial, responding to Trump’s unilateral announcement on social media that India had agreed to a ceasefire, accused him of acting without Indian public knowledge and bypassing national leadership and institutions. “Who gave the President authority? Did President Trump buy India's sovereignty? In exchange for what?” the party questioned.

The Shiv Sena (UBT) editorial described Trump as “a businessman,” not a global peacemaker like Mahatma Gandhi or Martin Luther King, and criticized his selective approach to international conflicts, particularly his support for Israel in the Gaza conflict.

Citing the Simla Agreement—a bilateral accord signed after the 1971 war that explicitly bars third-party mediation—the party alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had violated the agreement by accepting foreign interference. It also questioned whether ‘Operation Sindoor’, India’s military retaliation against Pakistan, had been completed or prematurely halted.

The editorial further paid tribute to the seven Indian soldiers martyred in recent Pakistani attacks, including 23-year-old Murali Naik from Mumbai and Dinesh Sharma, while lamenting the perceived lack of political accountability and visibility from senior ministers like PM Modi, Amit Shah, and the Defence Minister.

In a sharp critique of the government's handling of the Pahalgam terrorist attack, where 26 civilians were killed, the editorial asked, “How did the six terrorists enter and escape? Why is their location still unknown?”

While lauding the Border Security Force (BSF) for killing seven Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists attempting to infiltrate the Samba sector, the editorial argued that key questions about security lapses in Pahalgam remain unanswered.

Concluding with a nationalist sentiment, the Shiv Sena (UBT) urged citizens not to be swept up in political theatrics but to demand accountability for the sacrifices made by Indian soldiers and the grief endured by victims’ families.
