Mangaluru, May 10: The Third JMFC Court in Mangaluru has sentenced a private bus driver to eight months in jail in connection with a 2023 accident at Bendoorwell Junction in the city, where a woman was killed after being hit by the bus.
The deceased woman is Irene D’Souza (72). The convicted driver, H Bhaskar, is a resident of Vamanjoor.
On March 30, 2023, Irene D’Souza had alighted from a private city bus at Bendoorwell Junction and was crossing the road in front of the same bus when the vehicle hit her. The bus's wheel ran over her head, killing her on the spot. The driver, H Bhaskar, was accused of negligent driving, leading to the fatal collision. Instead of stopping, he fled the scene with the bus.
A case was registered at the Traffic East police station in connection with the incident.
