Beltangady, May 7: A disturbing incident of sexual assault on a minor girl that resulted in her pregnancy has come to light in the Venur police station limits. The girl has filed a complaint against the accused youth with the Venur police, and a case has been registered.

The accused has been identified as Sanath (28), a resident of Shirlalu village.

Sanath worked as a driver and would occasionally visit the girl’s house along with her father. It is alleged that he developed a close relationship with the minor during these visits. On the occasion of the girl’s birthday, Sanath stayed overnight at her house. During the night, he allegedly entered the room where the girl was sleeping and sexually assaulted her.

The complaint further states that he continued to visit the house occasionally at night and repeatedly assaulted the girl, eventually leading to her pregnancy. The girl has now formally lodged a complaint against Sanath with the Venur police.

Venur police have registered a case under Crime No. 41/2025, Sections 4 and 6 of the POCSO Act, and Section 64 of the BNS-2023.

Parents must be taken to task as they've been negligent. A young guy visits their home at night assults their daughter and they sleep through the night, and not one but on multiple occasions?Surely they were okay with the attention and gifts he got for the girl. It is very important that parents talk to their children at every step.

Please don’t expect more comments on this incident today—no explanation is needed. As usual, if the situation were reversed, the comment box would be flooded with hate and abuse. This must stop. Crimes like rape, theft, or violence should be identified and condemned based on the act and the individual—not their religion. Criminals should be called out as such, regardless of their background. Let's focus on justice, not blame based on faith.
