New Delhi, May 7: In a decisive response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, India launched a series of missile strikes targeting terrorist bases across nine locations in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK), killing more than 70 terrorists. The counterattack, codenamed "Operation Sindoor," also left over 60 terrorists injured across the targeted locations.
The operation was carried out in the early hours of the morning, with precise missile strikes hitting key terrorist infrastructure in Muzaffarabad, Kotli, Bahawalpur, Rawalakot, Chakswari, Bhimber, Neelum Valley, Jhelum, and Chakwal. The Indian government described the operation as a "measured, non-escalatory, proportionate, and responsible" response to Pakistan’s continued support of cross-border terrorism.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, in a press briefing, highlighted that the strikes were based on "credible intelligence input" and aimed at dismantling terrorist infrastructure and neutralizing terrorists planning attacks on Indian soil. He reiterated that India had exercised its right to respond to cross-border terrorism in a manner that was both strategic and responsible.
The operation, a historic tri-services effort involving the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force, was conducted with precision, and its targets were carefully selected to avoid civilian casualties and Pakistani military installations. The strike occurred at 1:44 a.m. local time, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally overseeing the operation.
Colonel Sofiya Qureshi from the Army and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh from the Air Force also addressed the press, providing details of the terrorist networks and their links to Pakistan-based groups responsible for planning and executing attacks against India. They emphasized that the strike was aimed at disrupting these terrorist groups’ operations and neutralizing threats to India’s security.
In a statement, India made it clear that the strikes were a direct message to Pakistan that India would no longer tolerate cross-border terrorism or the complicity of state institutions in fostering terrorism. “Our actions have been focused, measured, and non-escalatory. No Pakistani military facilities have been targeted,” the statement read.
India’s bold response through Operation Sindoor reflects its commitment to holding accountable those responsible for terror attacks on Indian soil while maintaining restraint in its military actions.
