Bengaluru, May 5: Tensions continue to simmer in the coastal region of Karnataka following the murder of rowdy-sheeter Suhas Shetty, with fresh threats reported against other activists and political leaders trading serious accusations.
State BJP president B Y Vijayendra expressed concern on Monday over what he described as a growing sense of insecurity among Hindu activists in the region. He alleged that communal elements are gaining ground unchecked and criticised the Congress government for failing to maintain law and order.

“The murder of Suhas Shetty has shocked the people of Mangaluru. Now, yet another activist, Bharat Kumdellu, has received a death threat via social media,” said Vijayendra. Kumdellu, a right-wing organisation worker, was allegedly threatened in a social media post referencing his role in the murder of Mohammad Ashraf, who was lynched recently for allegedly shouting a pro-Pakistan slogan.
Vijayendra also raised objections to the FIR filed against Beltangady BJP MLA Harish Poonja over his remarks related to Tekkaru Gopalakrishna Temple and Brahmakalashotsava. “Even elected representatives are not safe now. If the government continues on this path, BJP’s struggle will intensify,” he warned.
Meanwhile, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Sharan Pumpwell filed a police complaint in Mangaluru after receiving a social media threat stating he was the next target. An FIR has been registered under Section 351(4) of the BNS Act.
In a parallel development, Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) leader Riyaz Kadambu lodged a complaint with Pandeshwar police after receiving a death threat during a YouTube programme. The message, allegedly sent by one K R Rakesh, is under investigation.
