New Delhi, May 4: Air India has suspended all its flights to and from Tel Aviv till May 6, following a missile strike near Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport on Sunday morning. The move comes amid heightened tensions after a missile launched by Yemen’s Houthi rebels landed dangerously close to the airport, injuring at least six people.

"Consequent to developments in Tel Aviv this morning, our operations to and from Tel Aviv will remain suspended with immediate effect till 6th May 2025, to ensure the safety of our customers and staff," Air India said in an official statement. The airline added that ground staff are assisting affected passengers with alternative travel plans.

Air India’s Delhi-Tel Aviv flight AI139 was en route to Israel when the missile hit. The aircraft, flying over Jordanian airspace, was diverted to Abu Dhabi and later returned to Delhi. The return leg from Tel Aviv was also cancelled.

To minimise inconvenience, the airline has offered a one-time waiver for affected passengers scheduled to travel between May 4 and 6. Travellers can either reschedule their journey without penalty or opt for a full refund.

Customers have been advised to monitor the airline’s website or contact its customer service for the latest updates.

Meanwhile, Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport suspended operations temporarily after the explosion near its main terminal. German airline Lufthansa has also suspended its flights to the Israeli city in the wake of the incident.

Israeli authorities confirmed the missile was fired from Yemen and injured four people near the blast site, while two others were hurt while rushing to safety.

Israel’s defence minister, Israel Katz, strongly condemned the attack and vowed a strong retaliatory response.
