Mangaluru, May 1: In connection with the mob lynching at Kudupu, Mangaluru rural station inspector Shivakumar K R, head constable Chandra P, and constable Yallalinga have been suspended on charges of dereliction of duty.

The incident occurred when miscreants assaulted and murdered a Kerala-based man named Ashraf at a ground in Kudupu where a cricket match was in progress. Despite the case coming to light, allegations were raised in public circles that the police did not treat the matter seriously. Subsequently, the police took action and arrested 20 accused in the case.

On April 27, while the cricket match was underway at the Kudupu ground, a person named Deepak reportedly called the police to inform them that a group of players and spectators were attacking an unidentified man. The Mangaluru rural station inspector and other personnel are said to have received this information. However, despite being aware of the incident, they allegedly failed to inform higher authorities about the mob attack.

As a result, the case was initially registered as a UDR (Unnatural Death Report) but was later reclassified as a mob lynching. It is learnt that the three police personnel have been suspended for gross negligence in failing to alert senior officers about the incident, despite having prior knowledge of the mob lynching.
