Bengaluru techie suicide: 'Pour my ashes in gutter if no justice', reads farewell note

Bengaluru, Dec 11 (IANS): A part of the suicide note left behind by a 34-year-old man who ended his life here on December 9, besides disclosing shocking details, also reveals his wish to get ashes poured into a gutter outside the court if those who harassed him are not found guilty.

Atul Subhas, 34, who was working with an automobile company here, allegedly committed suicide as a demand of Rs 3 crore was made for a divorce settlement. Subhash ended his life at his apartment in the early hours of Tuesday, leaving behind a 90-minute video and a 40-page-long death note, explaining how harassment by his wife Nikita Singhania and her family compelled him to take the extreme step.

The note left by him read: "If the court decides that the corrupt judge and my wife and other harassers are not guilty, then pour my ashes into some gutter outside the court. Don't do my 'asthi visarjan' till my harassers get punished."

However, the family collected the asthi from the Bengaluru crematorium on Wednesday where Atul’s final rites were conducted. The family stated that the ashes would be taken to Patna, from where the family originally hails from and it will be immersed into the river as per the traditions.

The suicide note, under the headline "Justice is Due", addressing his 2-year-old child, read: "Now with me gone, there will not be any money to loot and I hope that they might start to look at the facts of the cases. Someday, you shall know the real face of your mother and her greedy family.

"I pray that they don’t devour you and your soul. I often laugh when I remember that I started saving money for a car when you go to college. Silly me. Remember this always that you don't owe anything to anyone. Don’t trust the system.

"Both – the society and system want to feed off you. If my blood wins in you, you shall live, love and fight with all your heart and craft beautiful things and destroy problems with your mind. May you live with the confidence and pride I lived with. May you not turn out to be a socialist or communist leach which is the highest form of corruption i.e. corruption of soul. Goodbye, my son!"

Atul Subhash further listed out his last wishes in the note.

"All my case hearings should happen live and people of this country should know about my case and learn the terrible state of the legal system and misuse of law these women are doing."

He also requested to allow the suicide note and videos as his statement and evidence.

"I fear that the judge might tamper with the documents, put pressure on witnesses and can adversely affect other cases. Based on my experience, the Bengaluru courts are relatively more law abiding than Uttar Pradesh courts. I request to run the cases in Karnataka in the interest of justice and keep her in the judicial and police custody in Bengaluru till the trial goes on," the note read.

He further wrote: "Give the custody of my child to my parents who can raise him with better values. Don’t let my wife or her family come near my dead body. Give maximum punishment to my harassers though I don’t trust our legal system too much. If people like my wife are not put behind jail, they would be more emboldened and will put more false cases on other sons of society in the future.

"To wake up the judiciary and urge them to stop harassment of my parents and my brother in false cases. There shall be no negotiations, settlements and mediation with these evil people and the culprits must be punished.

"My wife (knife) should not be allowed to withdraw cases to escape punishment unless she explicitly accepts that she has filed false cases. I predict that my wife now starts bringing my child to court to gain sympathy which she didn’t do before to make sure that I can’t meet my child. I request the court to not allow this drama," the note read.

"May be my old parents should formally ask for euthanasia from the courts if the harassment and extortion continue. Let's formally kill the parents along with husbands of this country and create a black era in the history of the judiciary. Narratives won’t be controlled by the system anymore. Times have changed,” the 'goodbye letter read.

He had also shared a link on X, tagging his video to CEO Elon Musk and US President-elect Donald Trump.

"A dead man is requesting Elon Musk and Donald Trump to save millions of lives from woke ideologies, abortion, DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) and restore freedom of speech in India. I will be dead when you read this. A legal genocide of men happening in India currently," the suicide note read.

Without mixing words I shall pen my opion, Today's enpowered women are taking things granted. Gone are the days when women were deprived from power and money, the laws were written to address those concerns. However, today the time has changed. Parents rise their girl child equal to male child. They are given fair play ground to compete with male counterparts. In the contrary, Nothing has changed in male's life. He has all burden of respnsibilites. His slogging starts from young, slogging to get good marks, slogging in given job, taking care of parents. Once wife enters in his life, he still has to take care of his wife and children. Thoughout his life he struggles to maintain his family. On the other hand what does women do, find a guy with good income and marry him. enjoy the money she earns and blame husband for everything. fight and drag his to court in false cases, get alimony. All the laws favours her, she take advantage of these silly laws. Man cries but no one listens.

I understand the mental torture can be difficult to overcome. Mind over matter...fighting this battle everyday in my life. May God bless us all.

the construct of the society is such that men suffer silently. If they express helplessness or weep they are considered good for nothing. Many men suffer in the hands of nasty women

How about starting with sharing how many divorce cases are currently pending in court wherein the case is initiated by the literate wife. In many cases, wife files multiple false cases against, the husband, his parents, his brothers and sisters under every penal code possible. Especially cases before Nyaya Sanhita came into effect. In most of these cases, Husband shows up while the wife's lawyer asks for "thareek pe thareek". In the current case, it took around 1~2 years for the relationship to sour. In many cases, within 6 months of staying together cases are filed and the SOP is standard. One fine morning, wife with all the valuables and personal belongings walks away and goes to parents house. Uske baad drama shuru. Reasons can be many including pre-marriage lafda, irreconcilable difference between single and married status, loss of independence etc., but cases filed are standard. Anyway, I am optimistic that anything will change. This is not the first time a husband has taken his own life due to the burden of failed marriage falling squarely on the seemingly non-vulnerable side of the marriage.

Very sad. Despite of all the developments, India is getting worst. It was much better when I was growing up in 70s because Values, character were most important. Now defrauding has become values. No amount laws can help until the people change.

Sir, let's not generalize this about our country. I agree values were held high back in the day, but that is the scene the world over. It is not something to be associated with 'India'. It is a change in humanity itself, for various reasons we all know. We are all Indians at heart and continue to be so irrespective of which part of the world we choose to live in. Just as we do see crime & injustice in other countries as well, there is an equal amount of good being done & good people living in India sir. Let's not extrapolate a few cases to the entire nation & instigate/brainwash people to think otherwise about this country or its people. Let's be model citizens of the world!

The suicide note can be considered as "Dying Declaration " which is considered as always true in law. It is time that laws in such matters are drastically changed and government servants be made accountable and immunity provided to them be withdrawn. Until then as I always say avoid the 4 'Ps', Looks like in a short time mob justice will prevail in our country too.
