Mangaluru, Sep 7: The first phase of the permanent drinking water project, which supplies water to industries and educational institutions across 24 villages, including Ullal City Municipality, Someshwar Town Municipality, and Kotekar Town Panchayat, has been completed. A trial run to supply water to the main tank, built near Chembugudde in Ullal, will be launched on Saturday.
The project, initiated in 2019 by then MLA U T Khader, received a grant of Rs 198 crore from the KUWSDB. A jackwell was constructed on the Netravati River at Sajipa Munnuru Aladi in Bantwal taluk, and water is being transported through pipes to a treatment plant in Mudipu. From there, it will be supplied to a ground-level reservoir in Chembugudde, 11.2 km from the treatment plant. The trial run will deliver water from Mudipu to the Chembugudde tank.
Additional grants have been released under the Amrit Scheme 2 for Someshwar, Kotekar, and Ullal City Municipalities. The second phase of the project is underway, with Rs 70 crore allocated for Ullal City Municipality, Rs 55.6 crore for Someshwar Town Municipality, and Rs 37 crore for Kotekar Town Panchayat. The project is expected to be fully completed within the next six months.
