New Delhi, Apr 8: The Supreme Court issued a stay on the Karnataka High Court's decision to conduct ‘Board Examinations’ for classes 5, 8, 9, and 11 of schools affiliated with the Karnataka State Education Board (KSEAB). The decision came in response to an appeal challenging the high court's judgment, which had upheld the state's authority to conduct these exams, dismissing petitions against their conduct.

The Supreme Court's stay order prevents the declaration of any results from these exams, which had recently resumed as per the High Court's directives. This marks the second time the Supreme Court has intervened against the KSEAB exams, following a previous stay order issued on March 12, shortly after the high court's initial ruling was challenged. The high court had justified its decision by stating that the KSEAB exams did not meet the criteria to be considered ‘Board Exams’ in the conventional sense, as they lacked certain key features such as public display of results and grading by external evaluators.

However, the Supreme Court has now stayed the results pending further review, indicating a prima facie disagreement with the high court's decision.
