Mangaluru: Senior BJP leader's grandson killed in car collision with road divider

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (MS)

Mangaluru, Mar 23: In a tragic incident late Friday night at Nanthoor in the city, a car collided with the road divider, turning into a mangled heap and resulting in the immediate death of the driver.

The deceased, identified as Shamith Shetty (29), was the grandson of Lalita Sundar, a senior BJP leader from Thokottu. The accident occurred as Shamith was returning home after attending the Daiva Kola program at a friend's house.

The impact of the accident was so severe that the car vaulted over the iron guards placed on the divider, causing extensive damage to the front portion of the vehicle. The wreckage was cleared using an excavator early Saturday morning.

Lalita Sundar, known for her leadership in the BJP, owns the Ashirwad Complex and a hotel at Thokottu junction. Following the death of her son Santhosh, Shamith was raised by Lalita and his mother. The family had been actively seeking a marriage alliance for Shamith.

Lalita Sundar holds the honorary position of president at the Koragajja Seva Samiti of Thokottu old check post and had previously made offerings to Koragajja. BJP leaders have offered their condolences to the family on Shamith's sudden demise. He is survived by his mother, sister, and grandmother.

It's sad to hear that yet another young life is lost in a road accident. Most of the time we blame the road but in this case looking at the mangled vehicle we should imagine the speed of the vehicle at the time of the accident. Hope his mother and family members are able to accept this untimely demise of a promising young man. May his soul rest in peace we pray.

Very unfortunate and tragic loss of a young life; may his soul rest in peace! The manner in which the vehicle has been mangled one can imagine the speed it was being driven! BTW; MANGALORE roads have become synonymous with so many accidents happening almost everyday, which are something to be worried about when one compares to other big or even mega cities; driving and even walking alongside the roads has become a very high risk business!!

Heartfelt condolences to the family. It's horrible to see the result of this accident. This vehicle could have killed so many, elsewhere. Avoidable ? Quite possible. Why are people so casual in their attitudes when handling such lethal weapons ? What does the postmortem report saying about this ?

Very sad indeed... young life lost. Driving on Mangalore roads is just like playing with own life. Death comes without notice to the young or old, rich or poor, powerful or weak... political party background is immaterial. May God give strength to the family to bear the loss.

Very sad loss. Now heads will roll and questions will be asked. There may be instant action because he hailed from a political background unlike other unfortunate hapless deceased victims whose lives were cheap. Mangalore is becoming a graveyard.

Joseph. What a terrible person you are. A boy lost his life. Imagine what the mother is going through. He's a fatherless child. Do you know the family? He was a kind boy. Why do you bring politics into this? This is what you will say tomorrow when your kids die in a similar manner? Do Congress and BJP?
