Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Mar 22: As the Lok Sabha election approaches, scheduled for April 26 in Dakshina Kannada (DK), the district prepares for a political shakeup with fresh candidates vying for the parliamentary seat. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced Capt Brijesh Chowta as its candidate, while Padmaraj R has been named as the Congress candidate.

Dakshina Kannada, renowned for its status as an educational hub and diverse modes of transportation, stands at a crucial juncture. Despite its abundant resources, the district has yet to fully harness them for development, leaving the public eagerly anticipating significant progress in the coming years under new leadership.

In response to this call for development, Daijiworld has launched a social media campaign soliciting input from the public regarding their expectations from the newly elected Member of Parliament (MP). Encouraging citizens to identify the top 10 priorities for the district's development, Daijiworld aims to channel community voices towards constructive change.

The social media platform has witnessed an influx of comments, reflecting diverse opinions and suggestions for enhancing the district's infrastructure and quality of life. Suggestions range from bolstering the IT sector and fostering communal harmony to improving road connectivity, promoting tourism, and creating job opportunities in Mangalore and Udupi.

Key themes highlighted by the public include:

  • Developing beaches and tourism infrastructure to attract visitors and boost local businesses.
  • Enhancing road connectivity and establishing IT-BT parks to generate employment opportunities.
Advocating for the inclusion of Tulu in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.
  • Prioritizing environmental conservation through initiatives like rainwater harvesting and solar energy utilization.
  • Addressing issues such as inadequate public transportation, renovation of government schools, and curbing corruption.
  • Proposing ambitious projects like the establishment of a cricket stadium, Fisheries University, and metro services.
  • Fostering skill development through vocational training centers and promoting local talent in job opportunities.

With citizens actively engaging in the democratic process and voicing their aspirations for the district's future, the upcoming Lok Sabha election holds the promise of transformative change in Dakshina Kannada.

The only development I would like the constituency to have is to open a school of tolerance, where all religions are respected. People of Mangalore are educated and it’s very sad to see that they are getting carried away by the negative influence fro m the people of north India.

In terms of development, below is required: 1) Expressways/Metro - Expressways from Mangaluru to Bengaluru and Mangaluru to Mumbai is the need of the hour. Also plan to implement Metro in stages, better roads and connectivity, etc. 2) Railways - As both Mangaluru Central and Mangaluru Junction contribute significant revenue, please plan to have a Railway Zone as Mangaluru as headquarters. Also increase trains to Bengaluru, Mumbai and other important cities. More Vande Bharat trains are required. 3) Airport - Airport needs to be extended further to have bigger aircrafts land/take off. Need to have connectivity to more domestic and international destinations. 4) IT/BT/ITes - More IT/BT parks are required in and around Mangaluru. Encourage companies to move to Tier 2 cities like Mangaluru etc. 5) Tourism - Tourism infrastructure needs to be developed. We have great scope to improve beaches. Need to build backwater places/tourism parks etc. 6) Cricket Stadium - International cricket stadium needs to be built.

Good choice but late timing. In my view, Ideally Padmaraja should have been launched an year back and should have conducted several of rallys, press conferences, gathering meetings, online campaigning etc by now. This would have made his presence felt. Just less than 2 months and fighting an incumbent party, strong and well dug, is going to really tough. Moreover Chowta being an ex Army works in favor of him. He can use the 'Neo Nationalism' and 'son of the soil' card to garner votes!.

In case Padmaraj wins then one can say people of DK opened their eyes , But I don't think this is going to happen, so why can't BJP try once an electric pole with saffron as their candidate probably that will also win with high margin because same highly intelligent people beaten utensils during pandemic in 2020.
