Bantwal, Mar 18: It is customary to install safeguards on both sides of railway overbridges for safety. However, early Monday morning, a lorry passing through Mithur struck and knocked down the safeguard installed at the site. The lorry fled the scene, leaving the safeguard hanging dangerously over the road.

Despite the awareness among high-level railway department officials, the hanging safeguard was not removed, with authorities citing a lack of necessary machinery.

With a significant volume of buses and other vehicles traversing the road at night, the dangling safeguard was posing a serious hazard.

Spot cleared

The public demanded urgent action from railway department officials to address this issue before a potentially disastrous incident occured.

Meanwhile, following widespread opposition, the authorities concerned cleared the spot in a late evening operation.
