It was Important to Get Back on Track: Ranieri

Rome, Sep 25 (IANS): Inter Milan's new coach Claudio Ranieri said his side started on the right foot in their 3-1 away victory over Bologna Saturday.

Ranieri took charge only Thursday after Gian Piero Gasperini's dismissal, but secured their first victory of the season in all competition.

"It was important to start on the right foot as the lads have to get back on track," Xinhua quoted Ranieri as saying.

"I had asked for the performance which was more important than the result. It was crucial that we fight for 90 minutes and this was a good game."

How did Ranieri manage to turn the situation around in just two days?

"I am convinced these lads needed this confidence and we have to get back all the injured players. We must continue to grow and work as we have done nothing yet."

Wesley Sneijder was out due to a thigh injury and the coach revealed the problem is dragging on.

"Sneijder can play anywhere, but in my view should be close to the goal. My fear is losing him for longer than expected, as the injury seems worse than it did yesterday and he won't come with us to Moscow," said Ranieri.

Inter are to play CSKA Moscow in the Champions League Tuesday.
