Vijayapura, Feb 2: The opposition BJP has no achievement to speak of and has never won the trust of the people as it has ‘manufactured’ majority only by engineering defections and its ill-famous ‘operation kamala’, said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday.

Speaking to media persons at the Muddebihal helipad in Vijayanagara district, he said the “Karnataka voters have never trusted BJP and blessed it with a majority of its own.’’

Responding to the comments made by State BJP President B Y Vijayendra that many leaders from Congress party have requested him to take them into BJP, Siddaramaiah said there may be some people who want to join BJP but genuine Congressmen never betray the party.

“BJP is expert in Operation Kamala and engineering defections by offering money and posts. Since 2008, B S Yediyurappa and Basavaraj Bommai have done the same. BJP always buys MLAs if they are willing to be purchased,’’ he said.

The Chief Minister said, “BJP never got a complete majority be in 2008, 2013 and 2018. The Congress party had won in 2013 and lost power in 2018. We were returned to power again in 2023 on our own by winning 136 seats. The Congress party comes to power based on trust and its performance while BJP can come to power only through operation kamala.’’

The Chief Minister dismissed the demand of Vijayendra that the removal of saffron flag issue in Keragodu of Mandya district must be entrusted to the CBI and said they have faith only in CBI and ED because they can be asked to do the BJP’s bidding.

“How can permission be taken to install flagpost to hoist national flag and then hoist saffron flag,” he asked.
