Udupi: 'City Arena' unveiled in Manipal as ultimate hub for sports & gaming

Udupi, Jan 31: The grand inauguration of City Arena - The Theatre of Dreams, Sports and Gaming Centre, unfolded in Manipal on Wednesday, January 31.

Yashpal Suvarna, MLA Udupi, along with other dignitaries, inaugurated this exciting venture.

Yashpal Suvarna expressed his thoughts on the occasion, stating, "Udupi - Manipal holds a unique status on the world map, and its rapid growth is evident. With students coming from over 25 nations, such businesses play a crucial role in fostering growth. The City Arena is a much-needed addition to Manipal's sports arena, providing broader opportunities for athletes. I envision the establishment of more branches in Udupi and Manipal, and I assure my full support."

 

 

Fr Robert D'Souza, principal of Lourdes Central School, Bejai, conducted the prayer service, setting a positive tone for the event.

Anitha D'Souza, CMC Member, shared her perspective, saying, "It's a theatre of dreams for the people of Perampalli. All kinds of sports activities are now available under one roof, offering an alternative to the gadget-dominated lifestyle of the younger generation."

Dr Roshan Kumar Shetty, assistant director of the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, Udupi district, added, "This is another feather in Manipal's cap. I had requested Alexis Castelino to institute a football academy, and now is the perfect time. With football being played on various surfaces, and plans for a badminton court in the future, I wish City Arena all the success."

Shashidhar Hegde, former mayor of Mangaluru, shared his wishes for success, saying, "City Arena, having its roots in Mangaluru, has become a significant facility for students and youths. As Manipal and Udupi witness rapid growth, this facility marks another landmark."

Parameshwar Hegde, ASP, Udupi, acknowledged the contribution to football in Manipal, expressing hope for new opportunities for the youth. "Age is no bar for football, and I wish more success for this venture in Manipal," he added.

Guru Prasad Kamath, CEO Manipal Digital, Manipal Technologies Ltd, congratulated the partners and emphasized the importance of sports, noting that it has no age bar. "The facilities available here are commendable," he said.

The event also included the felicitation of Udaykumar Shetty, engineer Vincent Lasrado, advisor Manoj Nayak, contractor, and supervisors. Fr Robert D'Souza, Fr Anil D'Souza, and Fr Romeo Lewis blessed the new premises, while Dr Padmaraj Hegde, dean, Kasturba Hospital Manipal, inaugurated the playground.

Key figures Leswin Moras, Alexis Castelino, Cynthia Moras, Melwyn Rodrigues, Mohammed Shammer Khader, Hasan Musharaf, Tejaswi Raj, Sudharshan Shetty, and others graced the occasion. The welcome address was delivered by Floella Moras, and the vote of thanks by Alexis Castelino. Jenisha Jernis served as the event's emcee.
