Udupi, Jan 30: “People's representatives should have the experience to present the issue of fishermen effectively with the governments. Fishermen of Karnataka are demanding that I should contest the Lok Sabha elections. I am confident that BJP will provide justice to the backward community,” said former minister Pramod Madhwaraj.

Speaking to media persons here, Pramod said, “I had served as president of  Mogaveera Mahajana Sangha for 12 years. I have worked in the National Fish workers’ forum of Karnataka costal committee. I have formed the inland fishing policy. Top leaders will consider the services that I have offered to fisheries including that of my father and mother. There is not a single fishermen MP from Gujarat to West Bengal. Fishermen have understood that they need a capable leader to address their issues in parliament. This has come to my knowledge through media. I am on tour since the past six months. I have held meetings with leaders of fishermen of 24 districts of Karnataka.

“I have met 6,000 BJP workers and leaders in Udupi-Chikkamagaluru Lok Sabha constituency. If the party wishes I am ready to contest the elections. I will support anyone the party picks to fight the elections. I have information that party workers and people of the constituency want the party to give the ticket to me. I have already conveyed to the leaders that I am aspirant for the Lok Sabha ticket,” he said.

Clarifying on the issue of lowering the Hanuma Dhwaja in Mandya, Pramod said, “The flag incident is condemnable. Hanuma flag and other flags of Hindu religion are the symbols of Hinduism. People hoist them with devotion and pride. No one should insult such flags. If done, it is condemnable.”
