Mangaluru, Sep 25: A middle aged unmarried man took his own life by placing himself beneath a moving train at the Ucchila railway gate

The deceased has been identified as Prashant (44), a resident of Konchady.

Prashant left his residence on Sunday evening, and his lifeless body was discovered the following Monday morning. He had parked his Honda Activa scooter at Ullal railway station and proceeded on foot to the Ucchila railway gate, where he lay on the tracks just as a train was approaching.

This unmarried individual, who appeared to have no apparent issues in his life, was reportedly under the influence of alcohol when he carried out this tragic act. ASI Madhuchandra of the Mangaluru railway police station, along with other personnel, arrived at the scene and registered a case.

The incident unfolded at approximately 8:15 pm on September 24 when Prashant came into contact with the Porbundar – Kocchuveli train. As the train passed the Ucchila gate, a disturbing sound was heard emanating from beneath the AC two-tier compartment. The station master at Ucchila also detected an unsettling foul odor and promptly informed the train's locomotive pilot. By the time the train had covered a distance of two kilometers, the remains of Prashant's body were entangled beneath the compartment. Tragically, his body had sustained severe damage and had become wedged in the train's wheels.

On receiving information, the railway police authorities promptly arrived at the scene at 8:30 pm, cleared the spot or mortal remains and allowed the train to resume its journey.
