Mangaluru, Sep 20: District in-charge minister Dinesh Gundu Rao has directed officials to complete urban development projects in the district before February 2024.
Presiding over the progress review meeting of various projects held at the deputy commissioner’s office here on Wednesday, he said that the projects taken up and the tender processes should be completed before February 2024. “The projects and tenders will remain pending if elections are announced by then.”
“As many as 302 projects worth Rs 130 crore have been approved under chief minister’s small and medium city development projects fourth stage. In all, 68 projects of them have been completed. Tenders for 213 projects are completed and the works are in various stages. Tenders for 41 projects have not been done or the tenders are in progress,” said DC Mullai Mugilan.
“As there is likely to be scarcity of water this year, precautions should be taken in advance. Ensure that water is stored in check dams constructed at various places in the district,” suggested MLC Pratap Simha Nayak. Assembly Speaker U T Khader said that water should be drawn from Adyar dam through pipes.
Minister Gundu Rao directed officials to take action about trash dumping yard at Pachanady and to collect property tax in the corporation limits.
The deputy commissioner said that there is scarcity of junior engineers, senior and junior inspectors and first grade revenue inspectors.
The minister obtained details of nine Indira canteens in the district and asked them to ensure that contractors maintain hygiene.
The deputy commissioner said that a proposal is being sent to open new canteens and food preparation centres at Someshwara, Ullal, Vitla, Mulki, Kadaba, Moodbidri, Kinnigoli, Kotekar and Bajpe.
Assembly Speaker U T Khader suggested that officers should provide information as to where canteens are required. “Mobile canteens akin to that of BBMP can be started otherwise,” he said.
