Neeraj Grover Murder Case: Jerome Approaches High Court

Daijiworld Media Network

Mumbai, Jul 17: Emile Jerome, convicted in the sensational Neeraj Grover murder case that took place three years ago, has approached the Bombay High Court and appealed against his conviction.

In a new twist to the case, ex-Navy officer Emile Jerome who was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment, has filed an appeal in the Bombay High Court stating that Grover's murder may have taken place even before he reached Maria's flat on the May 7, 2008, the day of the murder.

A Mumbai sessions court had ruled that Jerome was guilty of culpable homicide not amounting to murder, and awarded 10 years of imprisonment, while his accomplice and fiancee Maria Susairaj, though convicted on charges of destroying evidence, was let free as she had already served three years in jail as an undertrial.

Appeal states that as the time of the murder could not be established by the prosecution, the fact that Grover may have died even before Jerome arrived at Maria's flat cannot be ruled out.

The petition also alleges that the crime branch might have planted the murder weapon and the kerosene can.

Maria being the accused number 1 should be serving the jail term and not him, he stated. It is Maria who had a motive, if any, to kill Grover, as she is the main accused.

The appeal will come up for hearing on July 25 along with Jerome's bail application.
