Udupi, May 27: Manipal police have taken serious action against use of modified vehicle silencers. As many as 40 modified vehicle silencers were crushed and destroyed by the police personnel on Saturday May 27.

In the last 6 months, nearly 60-70 cases were filed in Manipal police station over usage of modified vehicle silencers. Rs. 500 is collected as fine for using loud silences. Four cases of modifying vehicles have been filed and Rs 15,000 per vehicle has been collected as fine. The RTO reportedly takes stricter action than the police over modification of vehicles. Two cases of performing wheelie by students in Indrali were also filed. An FIR was filed against them and their vehicles were seized. Manipal police have warned that in further days, serious action will be taken against those modifying vehicles.

In the last 6 months, the police have combed the whole Manipal, especially in residential areas through special drives and seized vehicle silencers which emit sound more than the permitted decibel level. All defective silencers were seized and a fine was imposed on the owners of the vehicles. More students were found using modified vehicle silencers and performing stunts on the road.

ASP Siddalingappa, DySP Dinakar, inspector Devraj TV and ASI Naveen Nayak were present.

Please do the same thing for private buses. Half of the accidents happen because of the horn they use and secondly they don't even patience to wait for 2 Seconds. They are not ambulances to honk like that. Ideal solution would be to ensure there is no horn itself in these buses

There should be uniformity in implementing such laws and rules. In Mangaluru some bike riders specially youths use modifkied silencers and the police once in a bluemoon wake up and take action for name sake. The police Dept. introduce Kobra, Zeebra, Python etc. But of no use. Take strict action in Mangaluru also.

Sure, first silence those lousy loudspeakers in mangalore, Second silence those air horn sporting privatel buses. Kids with loud silencers come later. Start with the bad examples.

Well done. Good action by those responsibly thinking police. But why go for further expenses by hiring a Road Roller and laying the confiscated silencers on a concrete road to be flattened and destroyed! The Road Roller also can damage the concrete road. This is a display of stupidity of our Law authority. There is one Motorcycle workshop on the Court Back Road that occupies most of that narrow street from many years, by parking and fixing motorbikes on the road, but inspite of mention in several of my comments, no action has ever been taken by the Law. Whatever the reason, but it is obvious the owner of this garage is above the Law! This mention is just to remind the Law that they are not fair in governance or they are simply blind to this one particular motorcycle workshop in the whole of Udupi town
