Udupi, May 26:  “I feel proud to be born in Tulunadu and I feel happy when people communicate with me in Tulu even abroad,” said Walter Nandalike, founder and managing director of Daijiworld Media.

Inaugurating the Tulunada Isiri, Tulu day programme organised by Mahatma Gandhi  Memorial  College (MGM) Udupi in association with Tulu Koota and Tulu organization of the college, Walter Nandalike said, “Even though Tulu language is spoken by a very small number of people today Tulu speaking people are spread across the world. There are Tulu speaking people in every country of the globe."

He said, "MGM College has provided education to lakhs of students in the past many years and it is still going on. Presently there are demands for including Tulu in the eighth schedule of the constitution and also to be given proper language status in the state. At this juncture these type of programmes by colleges takes an important note. I congratulate MGM College for this initiative. In the past 2-3 years after I started to give Tulu language based programmes on Daijiworld TV many people, even unknown individuals are speaking with me in Tulu language. I feel so happy at those moments which even I cannot explain” he said.

Addressing the students, Walter Nandalike said, “Whenever we walk towards success people start criticising us, in such situations we should never step back. We should always think that we are one step ahead than those people who criticise us. We should know our goal and walk towards it. I have faced criticism and abuses in the past 23 years. Don’t care for criticisms. Be firm with your goal and you will succeed.”

Addressing the students, chief Guest of the event, K Gunapal Kadamba, convener of Kambala organising and conserving training academy said, “People criticise when you step towards success and they are the only people who appreciate you when you find success. There is a popular opinion that Kambala is nothing but buffalo race. But even after the various government decisions affecting agriculture and its allied activities,

He said, "Kambala is being followed as earlier. It is an integral part of Tulunadu. Today Abharan Jewellers has featured a Kambala racer Srinivas Gowda in their promotional activity which is a commendable thing.”

Speaking on the occasion, Jayakar Shetty Indrali, president Tulu Koota Udupi  said, “We need to appreciate Dr Purthi Vasanth Kumar for his efforts in organising such an event in an education institution which promotes our culture to the future generations. Thousands of programmes related to Tulu might have been executed on this stage. Tulu Koota organises various programs throughout the year for the Tulu language. 470 students wrote their Tulu language paper in SSLC. In Udupi 37 students chose Tulu as a third language for SSLC examinations. Tulu is our mother tongue. We need to work for  the development of this language."

Walter Nandalike and Gunapal Kadamba were also felicitated on the occasion.

Prof. Lakshmi Narayana Karant, Principal of MGM College presided over the programme.

Dr. Devidas Nayak, principal of MGM Sandya College, Malathi Devi, principal of MGM PU college, were present on the dais.

Suchith Kotian, Head of department of Journalism compered the programme. Dr. Putti Vasanth Kumar welcomed the gathering.  Kalpitha, secretary of Tulu association proposed the vote of thanks.  Various cultural programs were also organised on the  occasion.

Along with the communication, Tulu makes a person humble as it is a very sweet language. Even a bad word like BVC is taken as compliment among friends. Abroad It makes a bond among people with different religion. Born in Tulunadu must be one of the reason for Kudla to get a humble, down to earth person like Walter Nandaike. I know him since last 20 years and he is only person I met in my life who never changed his attitude with the fame he got gradually. Me too proud to be born in Tulunadu.
