Mangaluru: Water rationing from May 4 due to acute water scarcity

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (EP)

Mangaluru, May 3: Due to the scorching heat of summer, the inflow of water into Netravati River has stopped, and the water level at Tumbe Dam is declining. As a result, the district administration has decided to ration water in the city corporation limits from May 4 onwards.

After reviewing the pros and cons, the administration has made the following decisions:

Water will be released for Mangaluru south and Surathkal on alternate days.

Water supply for construction activities and service centers washing vehicles will be discontinued until further notice. Water supply will be disconnected without notice if it is found that water is being wasted.

Water will be released to Mangaluru north on May 5 and to Mangaluru south on May 6, and so on, on alternate days.

"As the release of water in this manner is inevitable, people are requested to realize the issue and cooperate with the Mangaluru city corporation," stated a press release from the city corporation's executive engineer.

Water rationing should be more scientific. In a City like Mangalore many houses are situated above the road level . As a consequence of alternate day water rationing ,the houses at higher levels will not get water at all. Due to the panic created by rationing maximum water will drawn and wasted /stored by houses at lower levels . Such knee jerk measures to ration water will only cause inequitable distribution and deprivation to many householders. Hope wisdom will dawn on our sage administrators.

Please inform the election commission to postpone elections as there is scarcity of water. Water, food and shelter are basic necessities and are more important compared to Elections. Invoke president rule and address all pending issues.

Why did you guys not take all the visiting politicians to the water reserve? We the people are to be blamed. We want to hear speeches and gauge based on oratory skills of individuals; politicians bashing each other with words just to create an atmosphere to showcase who is a lesser fool. Structured planning and execution for basic necessities are completely ignored. As long as we fools are available to be fooled and divided by religion, caste and creed we do not see citizens coming together to address common needs.
