Udupi police return recovered valuables from theft cases worth over Rs 74 lac to original owners

Udupi, Mar 21: Police handed over recovered items and valuables of theft cases reported in various stations of the district on Tuesday March 21.

Seven motor vehicles of estimated value Rs 2,94,000, gold ornaments valuing Rs 68,23810 weighing 1.195 kg, silver ornaments worth Rs 88,510 weighing 1.192 kg, 10 mobile phones worth Rs 75,700, and cash Rs 1,70,150 were returned to its original owners. Total worth of the returned items was Rs 74,52,170.

As many as 40 cases from Karkala rural, Hiriyadka, Byndoor, Kollur, Kapu, Kota, Malpe, Udupi town, Kundapur, Padubidri, Kundapur rural, Brahmavar and Manipal police station were cleared and valuables were returned to its original owners.

Superintendent of police of Udupi district Hakay Akshay Machhindra, ASP S T Siddalingappa, and other police officers were present.

Speaking to the media, the superintendent of police said, “Today, we have returned the valuables of the respective cases to their original owners. A total of Rs 75 lac worth property including vehicles, cash, gold and silver has been returned. Public should take basic initiatives to protect their property because prevention is better than cure. Installing CCTVs, burglar alarms, and sensor cameras will help in this regard. Considering small benefits we are experiencing long term losses. Security measures should be followed in religious places too. Under public safety norms where there is footfall of more than 100 people, cameras should be installed compulsorily.”
