Beltangady, Mar 6: A huge wildfire was reported in the forest area in Alekhan Horatti hill area of Charmady Ghat of Chikkamagaluru district.

Forest department is making efforts to bring the fire under control. There is a possibility that some miscreants must have started the fire deliberately. A large forest area is believed to be burnt down. As the area is a hilly terrain, fire engines are unable to reach the place.

Some miscreants set fire to a garbage pile near Matadamajalu which also contributed to the spreading of forest fire. But the local team of forest department officials brought the same under control and prevented major damage.

Locals informed that more than 100 hectares of forest was burnt two days ago at Arasinamakki and Shibaje.

In most of the areas, the fire is caused by electricity wires.
