Udupi CMC chief Sumithra Nayak presents Rs 269.99 lac surplus budget for 2023-24

Udupi, Feb 27: Udupi City Municipality Council president Sumithra Nayak presented a surplus budget of Rs 269.99 lacs for the fiscal year 2023-24 on Monday, February 27.

Presenting the budget, Sumithra Nayak said, "We are expecting Rs 18,045.81 lacs of income and expenditure is expected at Rs 17775.82. A sum of Rs 525 lacs have been allotted for repairs and maintenance of roads, drainage, and footpaths and Rs 2,300 lacs for the pavement finish, concretisation and building of new roads.

A sum of Rs 433 lacs have been allotted for the repairs and maintenance of streetlights. Three rest rooms for the civic workers will be built in the city municipality council limits and Rs 163.88 lacs have been allotted for the house building project of civic workers and for the purchase of safety equipment.

20,000 streetlights of the city municipality limits will be converted to LED lights under the private joint venture, the proposal for the same is sent to the state government and it will be approved within a few days. Footpaths with  railings will be built at the selected roads for the ease of senior citizens” she said.

Rs 96.40 lacs under municipality fund and Rs 63 lacs under SFCb fund have been reserved for the development of scheduled caste and scheduled tribes community. Rs 974 lacs have been reserved for the repair and maintenance of drinking water pipeline. Under a motive to increase forestation saplings will be planted at Nittur STP unit, Karval waste management unit, Baje water supply station, and in crematoriums at Indrali and Malpe. Rs 2300 lacs have been reserved for the construction of new roads, drainage, and footpaths.

A proposal for rejuvenation of Nittur STP plant at a cost of Rs 17.50 crores has been sent to the state government. RS 1 crore has been reserved for the cleaning of sludge in the lagoon.

The Santhekatte weekly market premise and Vishweshwarayya market premise will be developed under the joint venture of private entities and fully fledged commercial complexes will be built at these places.

“Swaccha graham training centres” will be built at a cost of Rs 30 lacs to train the community to manage dry waste and reduce the dependence on the city municipality. A training centre will be built for the students at Karval waste management unit. Circles and bus stands will be built in partnership with private entities in the important places of the city” said Sumithra Nayak.

Under the DULT project Dr V S Acharya road in Manipal will be developed with modern amenities like creative streets, parking facility, cycle bay, food corners, lawn for the senior citizens, children’s play area, and open entertainment zones.

With a view to reducing the environmental pollution and reduce the fuel consumption, electric vehicles will be used for the waste collection in the city limits.

New city municipality building will be built at a cost of Rs 45 crores on the 0.96 acres allotted land of old taluk office premise. The building will have spacious underground, ground floor and 3 floors. The proposal is sent to the government and is under process of getting approval” Sumithra Nayak said.

All the members of the ruling party applauded the budget presented for the fiscal year 2023-24.

Ramesh Kanchan, opposition leader in his reply to the budget said “Every year we allot the budget for various activities. But we also need to check how these allotted funds have been used.  In the budget copy it is mentioned that open garbage throwing has been checked and black spots have been considerably reduced, whereas in reality there are still many garbage piling spots. There is a need to check the implementation” he said.

Ragupathi Bhat, MLA Udupi, Dr Uday Kumar Shetty, commissioner Laxmi Manjunath Kola, vice-president and members of the city municipality council were present on the occasion.

FIRST OF ALL LET THE UDUPI MUNICIPALITY: *CLEAR ALL THE ILLEGAL STREET VENDORS OCCUPYING FOOTPATHS AND ROADS *CLEAR THE LABOURERS MARKET FROM THE CITY BUS STAND AS IT REPRESENTS A VILLAGE WITH THESE DRUNK LABOURERS DIRTYING THE PLACE AND OCCUPYING THE FOOTPATHS AND THE BUS STAND *CLEAR ALL THE ILLEGAL FOOD SHOPS OPP THE CITY BUS STAND *PENALISE THOSE CONTRACTORS DIGGING CONCRETE ROADS AND LEAVING THEM JUST LIKE THAT * REPAINT ALL THE ROAD MARKINGS AND PUT UP SPEED SIGNS AND U TURN SIGNS AND STOP ALL THE WAY SIGNS, AND MAKE PEDESTRIAN CROSSINGS AND PUT UP TRAFFIC LIGHTS IN THE CITY ARE AREA ONLY WHEN THE TEMPLE FESTIVAL (PARYAYA) IS THERE THIS JOB IS DONE AND THAT TOO BY THE TEMPLE AUTHORITIES AND NOT THE UDUPI MUNICIPALITY *MAINTAIN AND REPAINT THE MUNICIPALITY BUS SERVICE BUS STAND BUILDING, THERE ARE TREES GROWING AND NO BODY IS BOTHERED. THERE IS NOT EVEN A SIGNBOARD INDICATING THESE TWO BUS STANDS IN THE CITY *STREET NAMES ARE NOW BEING INSTALLED BUT ONLY IN KANNADA EXCEPT WAY TO KRISHNA TEMPLE IN ENGLISH! *PROPER BUS STANDS FOR THE PUBLIC ARE NOT IN EXISTENCE EXCEPT NEAR THE MUNICIPALITY BUILDING , WONDER WHY THE SHOWMANSHIP OR THAT TOO IS DONATED! *IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO SAFELY CROSS ANY ROAD NOW IN UDUPI BECAUSE THE BANKS HAVE MADE EVERY FARMER OWN TWO CARS AND TWO TWO WHEELERS BY OFFERING LOANS THE TRAFFIC COPS ARE SHEER USELESS PEOPLE NOT DOING THEIR JOBS IN CONTROLLING THE TRAFFIC NOR ALLOWING PEDESTRIAN TO CROSS. THE LABOUR MARKET CROWD SHOULD BE PROHIBITED TO GATHER AT THE CITY BUS STAND AND NEAR MODERN STORE

    Put more women into power. You will see better results and less corruption. In this instance good numbers are displayed but contractors loot with low quality of work and not enough standards of work
