Udupi: Man cheated of Rs 99,997 while renewing FASTag

Udupi, Jan 31: A person was duped of Rs 99,997 while renewing the FASTag. Francis Pius Furtado looked for a FASTag application in Google on January 29, 2023 and telephoned +918249255475, a number found under PayTM Help and Support.

The person at the other end made Francis believe that he is the official of PayTM FASTag website and assured him of assistance. The fraudster obtained the OTP received by Francis and transferred Rs 49,000, Rs 19,999, Rs 19,998, Rs 9,999 and Rs 1,000 from his SB account at Union Bank of India.

A police case under registration No. 13/2023 under section 66 C, 66 (D) IT Act is registered at Udupi SEN police station in this connection.
