Mangaluru, Jan 4: Coastal districts received copious rainfall during the monsoon in 2022. But, the post-monsoon rainfall (hingaru) has failed with the coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi receiving less than normal rainfall.

It was estimated that the coastal districts would receive normal rainfall in 2022. But, according to the India Meteorological Department report the districts have received a 14% deficit in rainfall.

Dakshina Kannada district has reported a 4% decline in average rainfall as the district received 361 mm of rainfall which is less than the 376 mm of average rainfall that the district gets every year.

Udupi district received 241 mm of rainfall which is 23% less than the average rainfall of 312 mm for the year.

The coastal districts are experiencing climate change. A few days ago, the districts received good rainfall and wide fluctuations in maximum and minimum temperatures are being reported. At present, the intensity of cold weather has subsided and heat conditions have risen. As per the IMD forecast, cold weather conditions are likely to continue.
