Playback singer Padma Bhushan Udit Narayan thrills Dubai fans

Dubai, Nov 16: Padma Bhushan melody king Udit Narayan and his team gave a memorable show in a jam-packed auditorium ‘The Agenda’ at Media City on November 12. The hall was full of music lovers and Udit’s fans which showed the popularity he enjoys even till this day.

When he came on the stage, the audience cheered and jumped up to dance. Udit, immensely popular in the 90s, was accompanied by his singer wife Deepa Narayan and his team. The orchestra was well suited for all songs and of high standards.

The event was compered by famous RJ Abhijeeth of Dubai Radio 89.1FM. Abhijeeth has a superb and strong attractive voice. He also gives cricket commentary on FM channel with Farooq Engineer, the yesteryears cricketer. He was seen giving commentary with Farooq engineer for the recent England and Pakistan WT20 finals too.

The event started with Udit introducing himself and his family (his son was also present among audience). Udit explained the hardway how he came up from the scratch with almost nothing in hands. He expressed his special appreciation for Aamir Khan whom he addressed as Amir Khan Saab. It may be recalled, all his initial major hits were from Aamir Khan movies specially from ‘Qayamat se Qayamat Tak’, which was a major stepping stone for him. He expressed his gratitude to top music director A R Rahman for ‘Lagaan’. He mentioned about Shahrukh Khan, Anu Malik and Salman Khan. Shahrukh’s ‘Darr’ and ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ were major hits for him.

He explained his brief association with legends like Rafi Saab, Yash Chopra, Kishore Kumar, Kalyanji Anandji and Lata Mangeshkar. He also mentioned his association with Bappi Lahiri. He expressed his gratitude to Rajesh Roshan music director of ‘Kaho Na Pyar Hai’ where he gave superhit songs.

Udit has given his voice to mega stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Rajesh Khanna and Dev Anand too. His major success came from music directors like Anand Milind, Jathin Lalit, Nadeem Shravan, Shiv Hari, Rajesh Roshan and A R Rahman.

The show started with songs from ‘Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak’ followed by several beautiful solo hits. He sang ‘Janam Dekh Lo’ from ‘Veer Zara’ which was appreciated well by the audience. He sang a couple of duets with his wife. He also sang ‘Akele Hum Akele Tum’ with his son Aditya. Udit, who is famous for his excellent duets, surprisingly did not sing many except a couple of them. The show went on with nonstop beautiful solos for almost 3 hours, a complete entertainment for music fans. The highlights were from Darr, Kaho Na Pyar Hai, Veer Zara, Lagaan, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Hum Dil De Chuke
Sanam etc.

Udit was seen thanking the spectators throughout the show again and again. Once he even knelt on the floor as a sign of deep gratitude.
