Mangaluru, Jan 21: The construction work of twin one-way bridges with six lanes across Palguni river at Kulur will commence soon.

According to a English daily, the construction work of the six-lane bridge in the middle of the existing two bridges, which will be taken up by Shinde Developers Pvt Ltd at cost of Rs 70 crore, is expected to be completed within 18 months. The completion of the bridge will help in free flow of traffic connecting Mangaluru with Udupi.

The bow string bridge on NH 66, left side towards Mangaluru was built in 1952. Last year, the district administration had closed the bridge for strengthening, after it developed potholes and craters.

It is said that a detailed project report has been submitted to the government for the construction of a six-lane bridge in the middle of two existing bridges.

They are constructing the bridge between the two existing bridges. But the problem is there is an Ayappa swami temple right at the entry point of the proposed bridges. Have the temple authorities been consulted regarding the bridge passing through the temple premises? Has this been thought about? Hope this bridge wont be pumpwell version 2. Anyways. All the best.

This bridge should have been started 20 years back. Our country has a habit of waiting for crisis to develop and then solve it. Now also, the bridge is being built with only 6 lanes. That means, it will bring back the traffic congestion in 10 years. What kind of planning is this? In all developed countries, the need is forecast well in time and by the time problem comes, the solution is kept ready and implemented. Our politicians look for immediate benefits for themselves within the tenure of their political career. Why think of future? They wont gain anything by solving future problems.

... my belief is that the 6 lane simple bridge will be finished in stipulated 18 months period because there is no land acquisition issues here. But the alignment of existing road to the new bridges might take time.

    Why get carried over idiots.
    Build India not Politicians.
Build facilities to the citizens not openings of pathways.
