Mangaluru: Foundation stone laid for construction of new surgical block at Wenlock hospital

Mangaluru, Dec 14: Member of Parliament (MP) Nalin Kumar Kateel on Monday December 14, laid the foundation stone for the construction of a surgical block at district Wenlock hospital premises which will be constructed at a cost of Rs 37.52 crore.

The surgical block consists of a basement, G+5floor in 1,30,125 square feet, 12 operation theaters, 192 beds, a bridge connecting new medical blocks, and ramp for the convenience of patients. Other facilities include X-Ray, scanning unit, radiology, laundry, pharmacy, central sterile supply department and sterile store, separate clean and dirty corridor, pre-operative and post-operative ward.

Addressing the gathering, Nalin said, "Several development works under Mangaluru Smart City Limited are on the speedy progress with the only intention to bring Mangaluru city to No 1 position in the entire country in the next evaluation under Smart City mission."

“Hence, several works including construction of waterfront, sports complex near Mangala Stadium, development of 8 wards in the city, development of Kadri Park, concretising of roads, widening of roads, construction of deputy commissioner office building, and construction of central market is under progress by taking everyone into confidence. Under the Smart City mission, in the initial five years, importance will be given for development, and the next five years for revenue generation and to bring Mangaluru city in the ranking of top cities in the country,” he said.

He also asked Sudhakar Shetty of Mugrody Construction to complete the work of the hospital as soon as possible.

Lauding Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his initiative of Smart City mission, Nalin said, "Mangaluru is the only city which received funds under AMRUT and Smart City Project.”

Mangaluru South MLA Vedavyasa Kamath, said, "The proposal for the construction of new central market with an 11-storey building under PPP model at cost of Rs 144 crore is under tender process. If construction is completed, the central market in Mangaluru will be a model for the country. The government has given approval for the project for the construction private bus stand at Padil at a cost of Rs 445 crore.

“Though due to Covid-19 pandemic, development works were slow, now it is being done in a speedy way. The development work which is in progress in the city is being done with a far vision.

"Foundation stone will be laid for the construction of jetty at Bengre at cost of Rs 65 crore and for the work of capital dredging at a cost of Rs 29 crore. Chief minister B S Yediyurappa has sanctioned Rs 732 crore under Jala Siri Yojana to provide 24*7 water to the city. The chief minister's office has asked Mangaluru City Corporation to prepare an action plan worth Rs 128 crore under Mahathma Gandhi Nagar Vikas Yojana," he said.

He also lauded MP Nalin for his efforts in bringing various projects to the city.

Mayor Diwakar Pandeshwar also spoke on the occasion.
