Kundapur, Oct 17: The police sub-inspector here, Sadashiva Gavaroji's initiative in providing treatment to a mentally deranged man who had become a nuisance for the people, has been well appreciated.

A man of Bihar origin who seemed to have developed psychological disorders, was seen roaming around the streets of the town since the last some days. Social websites were full of the details about the man who was loitering in his semi-nude appearance. The way he was creating havoc among the people was also shared widely through WhatsApp.

Many people have suffered bad injuries because of him as he is in the habit of suddenly charging at the people when walking very fast. Many times, he had also chased women doggedly and groped them. It is said that several women including girl students had become victims of his perverted behaviour. In the WhatsApp groups it was said that many had urged the concerned to take steps against him. Social activists also pleaded to help the people to get rid of him.

Social activists and reporter of a local publication, Kiran Poojary, brought this fact to the notice of Sadashiva R Gavaroji. Kiran had seen the man moving around on Thursday and immediately conveyed information to Gavaroji. Gavaroji along with two policemen and local municipal councillors and others, convinced the man to accompany them. He was taken to the government hospital at Udupi in an ambulance. With this, the people are happy that walking on the roads of the towns are no more a nightmarish experience.

The man was produced in the court, and as per the orders of the court, he was shifted in an ambulance accompanied by police personnel to Dharwad Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences, Dharwad for treatment. Councillor Prabhakar, Hussain Haikady, who is the JCI Kundapur city founder president, and Shaban Hangalur, and Rafiq BF helped in the task.

--- why he was not immediately arrested... why there is no case against him...?

Can the police decide on their own whether he is criminal or mental...

It's really scary and risky to face such situations if anyone comes across on the roads especially when no one is around ... Really surprised to know why he was left to roam and create panic among the public?? May be mentally sick...yes.. But, our police/muncipality should have taken appropriate step in the beginning itself... How come public didn't complaint or the parents of girls who were the victims kept quiet for so long ??
