Udupi: ‘No one involved in narcotic drug network will be spared’ - SP Vishnuvardhan

Udupi, Oct 17: "In the district of Udupi so far narcotic drugs worth Rs 73,39,500 are confiscated. Three high profile cases are cracked and four people are arrested. Synthetic drugs are also confiscated from them. We have to make Udupi district as drug-free. That is why the police department of the district is fighting with the drug network. No one involved in the drug trade will be spared," said SP Vishnuvardhan.

Vishnuvardhan was speaking at the press conference that was held at the office of the SP in the city on Saturday, October 17.

The SP further said, "In the last five years, 211 cases of ganja consumption, sales and transportation are registered against public and students. 224 people are arrested. Apart from ganja, for the first time in the district of Udupi, synthetic drugs are confiscated by the police. Ten people are arrested through reverse investigation.

"As many as 1,019 MDMA tablets worth Rs 30,57,000 weighing 540 grams, 1,000 LSD stamps worth Rs 30 lac, 30 grams of brown sugar worth Rs three lac and 131 gram of superior hydro weed worth Rs 9,82,500 is confiscated by the department.

"We have to trace the source of drugs. Intense search is in progress. Most of the dealings are taking place through Dark Web. The point of concern is that those who are selling drugs are aiming to sell them at Manipal. The department has given instructions to the educational institutions also to take strict action on the students who consume narcotic drugs.

"Police inspector of ISD Udupi unit Madhu, assistant drug controller of Udupi Nagaraj, Udupi tahsildar Pradeep and personnel have cooperated in all the raids that are conducted so far,” he said.

Action is taken to have strict control over the ganja cases in the district as the numbers are increasing. According to the direction of SP Vishnuvardhan, three teams are formed under the leadership of additional police officer Kumarachandra.

The technical team consists of Hariram Shankar, ASP, Kundapur subdivision, Bharath S Reddy, DSP, Karkala subdivision and personnel of district police office Shivananda, Nitin and Dinesh.

The operational team consists of Manjunath M, police inspector, Manipal police station, Rajshekhar Pandya, ASI, Manipal police station, Shailesh, Prasanna, Dhoom, Abdul Razak, Adarsha, Salman Khan, all personnel of Manipal police station, Vijayakumar, Raju and Satish from Kundapur police station.

The investigation team consists of T R Shaishankar, DSP Udupi subdivision, Anantpadmanabha, police circle inspector, Brahmavar circle, Mahesh Prasad, police circle inspector, Kaup circle, Manjunatha, police circle inspector, Udupi, Manjappa D R, police inspector, DCIB, Udupi and Raghavendra, ASI, Brahmavar police station.

Additional police officer Kumarachandra, Manjunatha M, police inspector, Manipal police station, Hariram Shankar, ASP, Kundapur subdivision, Bharath S Reddy, DSP, Karkala subdivision, Manjunath M, police inspector, Manipal police station, Rajshekhar Pandya, ASI, Manipal police station, Manjunath, police circle inspector Udupi, Raghavendra, ASI Brahmavar police station and police inspector Madhu were present.
