Mangaluru: Private bus owners support Ladyhill circle name change

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (ANK)

Mangaluru, Sep 23: Mangaluru City Corporation’s (MCC) recent proposal of renaming Ladyhill circle to Narayana Guru circle, drew criticism and led to oppositions from various groups.

Some students raised objections and started a campaign opposing the same. Later, Catholic Sabha submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner, MCC commissioner and the mayor highlighting the century old historical significance of the name and asking to retain the name ‘Ladyhill’.

In the same memorandum, the names being used in buses and bus stops were highlighted claiming the significance apart from many others.

However, after receiving various oppositions and resentment, the city corporation had kept the proposal pending for the time being.

Now the private bus owners have started their campaign in support of renaming Ladyhill circle to Narayana Guru circle.

Several private buses in Mangaluru have put up Narayana Guru name plates in the buses showing support to this move.

The city corporation council had proposed renaming the circle as part of its agenda for the general session of the council which was to be held on Tuesday September 22 which was dropped later.

Who are those private bus owners to decide about the renaming of the Lady Hill Circle? Let them give good service to the passangers. Let them train their bus drivers and conductors how to behave politely with the elderly people and the passangers. Its not their business to rename the circle. Why cant the Govt take up all routes and run govt buses in Mangalore city?

I think people involved in this proposal should take a glass of water and jump into it. Some historical locations will be known by its original name no matter what you name it. Jyothi circle is still Jyothi circle among common people despite its name change many years back.

Would like to see how many bus conductors will stop calling it LADYHILL and use the new name. Hypocrisy from the MCC. If these are so keen on changing everything that is not Indian, stop buying rafaels, stop wearing jeans, stop buying imported cars or mobiles or any other thing that isnt Indian. But you know thisbis exactly why they are hypocrites. And ofcourse insecure.

I am at a loss to understand why a road or a circle standing in someone's name needs to be replaced by a new name. This place has been known as Ladyhill for centuries, why change the name now? This is not to belittle Narayana Guru. If anybody wants to name a place after him, by all means do that by giving a new road or a bridge his name. Why replace an existing name and hurt someone's sentiments?

My questions to those who planned this name change and creating controversies

    1. If you want name anything after Sri Narayana Guru, is it not better to name it something new rather than renaming which is centuries old?
    2. Will Sri Narayana Guru be happy that you name something after him by hurting sentiments of a section of people?
    3. Are you not insulting the person/institute after which it is currently named?
    4. What is that you will achieve by renaming a circle that hasn't been achieved in Managalore's history till now?

How come the font and style of the new name of Ladyhill is same on all the buses? This is done by the saffron party on their compulsion the new name is added.
The new name is not done voluntarily by the bus owners.
None of the buses plying to Jyothi are there because then they will have to remove Jyothi since Jyothi is not the official name since it is renamed.

Who are the bus owners to support the re naming the Ladyhill circle. Let the private buses issue tickets to the passengers. The private bus owners supporting the renaming the change because they need not pay the regular hafta to MCC.
I would be happy if the private bus mafia is abolished from the twin districts, they are a curse.

By this we can come to know how the ppl are educated in mlore, so called intelligent district is all of waste.
These ppl support blindly without knowing the back knowledge of any importance of particular thing.
For that our MP's, MLA's and coporators are taking nice advantage of the ppl. Which the ppl become barkas we soon.
It is very difficult to talk to auto rickers drivers and bus drivers and conductors now a days in mlore very rudish behaviour and don't give change at all.
To trap them it is very easy for our so called elected bodies.
When whole india is under dictator, then what ppl will follow.
The days are near when everything will be upside down and ppl will realize the importance of harmony and friendship within all the communities.
