Kasargod: BJP accuses Kerala government of trying to shield Manjeshwar MLA

Kasargod, Sep 23: BJP Kasargod district president K Surendran accused Kerala government of making all-out efforts to shield Manjeshwar MLA M C Qamaruddin who has been an accused in the case relating to cheating people after accepting jewellery deposits.

He was addressing the participants of a meeting held near the office of the district collector here on Tuesday, September 22 by National Democratic Alliance. The meeting was arranged to seek the resignations of Qamaruddin and minister, Jaleel, who has been accused of facilitating gold smuggling.

"The fraud is to the tune of over Rs 150 crore. Over 50 cases have been filed against the MLA. Even though there is conclusive evidence of cheating, the police have not arrested Qamaruddin, who continues to be seen in all the programmes organised by the Left Front. Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan who has acknowledged that a large scale cheating scandal has happened has dithered from taking any concrete step," he said, duly wondering how can the crime branch go ahead with an investigation without arresting the legislator.

BJP district president and advocate K Surendran presided. BJP leaders, Sanjeeva Shetty, Prameela C Naik, Kolaru Satishchandra Bhadary, Suresh Shetty Pookatte and others were present. Ganesh Parekatte welcomed.
