Mumbai, Sep 16: Maharashtra government issued an order on Tuesday waiving 50 per cent of the road tax, payable by the goods and commercial vehicles for a year from April 2020 to March 2021.

However, the order was not acceptable by the transporters as they demanded a complete exemption. Due to the lockdown imposed amid coronavirus pandemic, the transporters suffered huge losses and had therefore demanded a complete waiver from April 1 to September 30. The concerned parties had stressed to their demands be met or witness agitation against the government.

Malik Patel of Mumbai Bus Malak Sanghatana said, "We do not want to pay 50 per cent taxes for six months of lockdown as our vehicles were not used."
