Bengaluru, Aug 9: Karnataka health and family welfare minister B Sriramulu has tested positive for coronavirus, and has been admitted to Bowring hospital here.

Sriramulu announced on Twitter that he got himself tested for the virus after he developed fever.

"As I have tested positive for corona, I have gotten admitted to the government-run Bowring hospital in Bengaluru's Shivajinagar. I am confident of recovering quickly, and I urge everyone not to panic," he tweeted.

He further said that during the fight against coronavirus, health and all the other departments of the government under the leadership of chief minister Yediyurappa had worked tirelessly and fearlessly to defeat the virus.

"Since the time of the coronavirus outbreak, I have visited 30 districts and ensured that people have prompt access to treatment, in line with the government's vision. Now I am myself faced with this ordeal. I have been hospitalised and under treatment now," he said.

"I pray to God that I recover as soon as possible and get the strength to serve people even more. I request everyone who has come in contact with me to get themselves tested," he added.

Sriramulu is the fifth minister in the state cabinet to test positive for coronavirus. The others are chief minister B S Yediyurappa, B C Patil, S T Somashekar, and C T Ravi. Opposition leader Siddaramaiah too has contracted the virus.
