Capt Michael Saldanha's announcement during Muscat-Mangaluru special flight inspires passengers

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (AM)

Mangaluru, May 20: Air India's first special flight to Muscat landed at Mangaluru International Airport on Wednesday, May 20. The IX-818 Boeing 737 had first landed in Bengaluru and then continued its flight to Mangaluru with 65 passengers.

Addressing the passengers, Mangalurean pilot Capt Michael Saldanha, who was flying the aircraft said, “On behalf of the government of India, Air India Express family and crew, I would like to extend you a very warm welcome on board Air India Express flight IX818 from Muscat to Bengaluru and then onto Mangaluru.

“It is an honour for me and my crew to fly you home on this very first flight from Muscat to the state of Karnataka as part of the Vande Bharat mission, an initiative of the government of India to bring our fellow brothers and sisters who have been stranded all over the world back to our motherland India. The world right now is facing an unprecedented crisis with the onset and the spread of the novel coronavirus pandemic. As a result countries are shutdown, people have been separated from their families. Literally everything is under lockdown. But we, the crew of Air India Express, have voluntarily stepped up for our country to bring our stranded countrymen back to their homes and to their loved ones. As you can see, my fellow crew members are dressed in PPE suits, this is a part of protocol, but inside, they are the same warm and friendly crew who will make sure you all will have a comfortable flight.

“Sit back, relax and enjoy the flight. It is a pleasure having you all on board. Stay safe, stay strong. Jai hind,” he concluded.

Capt Michael Saldanha was assisted by first officer Venu Madhav with the cabin crew led by Clayton D’Souza and assisted by Himani, Arun Mohan, and Siddarath Kadam.

Yesterday a special flight from Dammam (Saudi Arabia) to Bangalore took off it's journey on a Vande Bharat mission. Ticket price as below

    Preimum package 120000
    Standard package 92000

So what good it makes here to praise Modi or his government ? Did he do any favor ?? People are paying high prices from their pocket and coming back. There is nothing free to praise Modi or his government for his Vande Mission.

The evacuation mission was that of 1991 government when they evacuated several hundred thousands from Kuwait due to first gulf war. That was free of cost. If anybody wanna praise it is the then government not this present media hyped and it's Bhakt hyped government.

No body is forcing to take up the we evacuation flight. The flights to pick up pasengers fly empty, who is bearing the cost, secondly this is not an emergency situation like war, every country in the world is faceing this critical problem over and above meeting the cost of treating patients within the country

No need to thank Mr. Modi. That's his duty to bring back his own people.
Every country's leaders were more proactive in terms of taking back their people, to be honest with you, we are already LATE in our actions.

Don't compare with other countries. Our country is with 130 Cr population with most of them are poor. Govt should have first completed the process of sending migrant workers to their home. After that only they should have started airlifting. Actually Govt started too early. Which is not at all needed.

Exactly. Poor migrants who contributed for the development of this country, who voted for this Govt, who used their skills for their own country, looked after their aged parents, paid tax, are suffering a lot. Very sad.

Kudos to Captain Michael Saldanha on the superb role that you have played in encouraging the passengers while they were all in state of depression.

If I recall several years ago I had the pleasure of you being at the control while I was on a flight from Mangalore to a foreign destination. You were kind to me and the the passengers. The crew working under you too were very courteous.

    May you be blessed

Government has so far called as evacuation... I always believed in the term evacuation is vacating citizens who are in distress , helpless or in dire need of getting them back to respective countries. I have seen many other country government not charging citizens when they call it as evacuation . In current scenario government has charged passengers and can this be treated as evacuation?
