Mangaluru: ‘Grocery stores to be open from 7 am to 12 noon from April 1’ – Kota Srinivas Poojary

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Mar 31: District in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary on Tuesday, March 31, said that grocery shops will be open from 7 am to 12 noon from Wednesday, April 1.

Addressing media he said, "Grocery stores, and vegetable and fruit shops will be open from 7 am to 12 noon. There will be no complete lockdown as such.

“After three days of complete lockdown, public was allowed to buy groceries from 6 am to 3 pm on March 31, but the district administration noticed people thronging into the market and shops without maintaining social distance. So in this regard, decision has been taken for relaxing the lockdown rules from April 1. Groceries shops, medical, gas supply, banks, and petrol pumps will remain function.

“Scores of people gathered at central market and Suratkal market today. Taking this into consideration, there will be complete restriction for public to the markets. Only dealers will be allowed to these markets from April 1.

“People are not allowed to stand in queues at grocery shops. If more people gather, shopkeepers will have to take grocery list from the customers and take their phone numbers. Once the grocery items are ready, shopkeepers have to call the customers who can come n collect their items.

“Department of Health and Family Welfare, Dakshina Kannada district, will set up 13 fever clinics across the district in wake of coronavirus outbreak. The clinics will be set up at taluk hospitals in Bantwal, Beltangady, Puttur and Sullia, at eight medical college hospitals and at district Wenlock Hospital,” he said.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said, "After three days of lockdown, there were no positive cases in the district. But today, there one has tested positive here. Regarding opening of Mangaluru-Kasargod border, we need to protect our district. We will not open the border.”

MLAs Vedavyasa Kamath and Dr Bharath Shetty were present.

That is a good move. Instead of shutting down the shops for 3-4 days and then opening for one day which creates a mad rush, this is sensible. People too should act sensibly, avoid crowding and maintain social distance. This is a real relief.

Kudos to Kota Srinivas Poojari. It is great idea to keep grocery stores open from 7 am to 12 noon. It is a great relief for grocery shoppers but they must follow the rules at the same time. Something better than nothing. But the comments made by some readers is not at all relevant to this issue. It does not make sense at all.

Sir, one suggestion, buy 1 lac drones, and use it for home delivery.
(Maybe useful in future too as we will be permanently inside house.)
OK now make sure they are not Chinese, or else they will deliver Chinese virus.

If overcrowding seems to be reason behind introducing these new timings, keeping the shops open from morning till evening might be a better idea. It would be erroneous, indeed suicidal, to take this kind of a decision by watching the figures of just three days. Just one or two cases are enough to spread the virus once again. I don't know how judicious it would be to keep the shops open on all days. All the efforts put in by the people would come to naught God forbid, if one or two cases crop up. The officials should have waited some more time before arriving at this decision.

Right decision by the minister. Today most of the grocery stores , supermarkets and medical stores were flooded by the customers because of 3 days lockdown. There won't be much rush from tomorrow if essential commodities will be made available/provided daily.

I am very impressed with Minister Poojary. He seems very intelligent, capable and aware of the dire implications of the potential harm of the coronavirus. It's good that he and Minister Kateel are coordinating the government efforts despite the difficulties and challenges of food, petrol and medical disbursement, and public opinion and criticism. They seem more competent to me than many "western politicians".

People need not panic and line up for essentials on daily basis. They can buy items which are sufficient for 3-4 days so that they do not move out of home again for next 3-4 days unless there is any emergency. Government officials are trying their best to avoid mass gatherings by trying new things and we should support them at this time. Lock down will be successful only if we follow the guidelines shared by government else there is every chance that they may extend the lock down to reduce the further damage. Support to government for next 2 weeks can give us much relief after that else we have to continue with this and also by then number cases might increase. Government alone cannot eliminate this. Let's extend our support and stay safe. Jai Hind.

All Man Made Gods are under lock down !Self styled God men, healers and everybody !
Some are busy trying to Portray their God as almighty even in these circumstances trying to throng places of worship !

    Cynthi,

He is just talking...no way he can increase the stocks in private shops...
He can increase supplies in Ration Shops ....subject to their availability....
I think all shops should be open with their normal timings with a strict social distancing of 6 feet...and shopkeepers should compulsorily wear masks and Gloves....Buyers they should be optional like in west...

Geru Beeja is not available here...I am continuing with my experiments with Baba Ramdev's 'Putra Jeevak Beej'....

No Cashew trees here...they grow in warm weather countries like in India....We have lots of Apple trees here...our Wine shops and stores are open...so I don't have to brew 'Apple Gangasara'....only bars, gyms, schools, non-essential offices are closed...While in shop we have to keep a distance of 6 feet...

Lots of Deer's too....they are like Wild Cows in India...they come here eat my Garden plants and sleep also...they are fearless...

Baba Ramdev did not liked your comments...he already hit Disagree so hard ....effect is visible in Nallasopara....

Lan..sir,. Here in our villages, in our fields, we used to frighten wild animals by keeping"berchappas". Old broken round mud pot, old white shirt without few buttons and old black plant. We stuff the body with hay...it's hands, stomach, and legs...On the pot we draw fierceful eyes with white chalks robbed from the school and tie one long stick on the wrist of berchappa. Hands will be wide opened. 3/4 berchapps we were keeping. Sometimes looking at his shape, we only used to get scared. Really wild animals were getting scared. From home, we used to bang aluminium vessels very often....if its now, even corona would have run....please try this idea in your garden to frighten lovely deers. Let them go to neighbours garden 😁😁😁

I am doing well......everything looks normal here thank God...

New York City, Philadelphia City, Chicago City we have lots of reported cases....here all cases are reported and nobody can hide anything that may be reasons for higher reported cases...

Trump has press meet everyday evening at 5 PM to discuss Corona Virus and his Governments preparedness or lack of it...

You are correct....at worst case we may have a death rate of 200,000 people...I don't think it will happen...Yesterday Trump was showing a test kit developed by Abbott Lab which tests Corona Virus in 5-15 minutes...and Malaria medicine Quinine / Hydro Quinine will prevent 75% Corona Virus with some side effects...

We will invent some Vaccination / Cure for this Scourge soon...and things will not move bad in my opinion Bhandumaam...

In my opinion India is doing well compared to Europe and US in preventive measures..

You take care too, my friend...
