Coronavirus: Karnataka starts marking passengers at airport

Bengaluru, Mar 19 (IANS): Karnataka Health Minister B. Sriramulu on Thursday said the state government has started marking passengers at the city airport, required to be home quarantined as a precaution to contain the potential spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).

"COVID-19 passengers hands being stamped at international airport, Bengaluru. #Indiafightscorona," tweeted Sriramulu.

He shared three photographs of passengers being stamped at the Kempegowda International Airport.

The region above the knuckle of a fossil watch wearing man's left hand bore the stamp: Proud to protect Bengaluru. Home quarantined till April 3.

Officials wearing masks are stamping passengers at the airport.

On Wednesday evening, state Health Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Pandey highlighted that some people under home quarantine are not following the procedures properly.

He said the health department will stamp such people.

"It has been decided to stamp the back of palm of left hand of such passengers with a specially designed stamp which will indicate the last day of quarantine," Pandey said in a statement.

The rectangular stamp will read: Proud to protect Karnataka, home quarantined till. With another stamp indicating the date in dd/mm/yy format.

Meanwhile, a new coronavirus positive case has emerged from Kodagu, taking the total positive cases to 15 in Karnataka.

"First in Kodagu today. The infection was confirmed and the man had just returned from a tour of Saudi Arabia," said Sriramulu.

The Health Minister said the new case is being treated in isolation at a hospital.

I had my flight tonight but cancelled my tickets 2 days ago which I had booked almost one and a half months back because of all the chaos. Air India Express deducted approximately 7k out of 23k (round trip) but it is better to cancel the trip, lose some money and be wise. Also, India should stop all flights instead of acting stupid.

Using the same stamp on every person continuously can also spread the infection if the virus is sitting on the back on the palm due to a sneeze or cough! The stamp can be a carrier of the virus and I also see the official toughing the passenger . Even if he wore gloves and toughed the passenger, he wouldn't change the gloves for every passenger so there are possibilities of spreading the virus from the gloves. Best way is stop the damn flights! Gosh, what is India up to???

It's right. Instead of changing gloves they have to wash hands with sanitizer after touching a person. They have to take care that, do not touch their own face without washing hands.

Why stamp? Why not stop flights from other countries at least for sometime. This stamp business does not make sense. Please delay Thier arrival here.

Exactly... Already it's too much late... Instead of banning the entry of the flights... now stamping. Ink is getting washed away in water?? People still want to come from abroad don't they think their families should not get affected and they don't want their health and safety? Gulf countries banned the entries from other countries... Very sad

Where should the Indians go to ? China?
Indians are caught up in other countries, who need to return to their homeland immediately, which is their birth right.
