Modi govt doesn't acknowledge slowdown: Manmohan

New Delhi, Feb 19 (IANS): Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led NDA government over the country's economic situation, saying the Narendra Modi government does not acknowledge the word "slowdown".

He said if the problems are not identified today, there will be very little chance of finding credible answers.

Singh made the remarks at the launch ceremony of former Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission, Montek Singh Ahluwalia's book "Backstage".

The former prime minister also hailed Ahluwalia for pointing out the "good as well as the weak points" of the previous Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government.

"I think these issues will be debated and should be debated because today, we have a government that does not acknowledge that there is such a word as slowdown. I think this is not good for our country," Singh said.

"If you do not recognise the problems you face, you are not likely to find credible answers to take corrective action. That is the real danger," he said, taking an apparent jibe at the Modi government over the state of the economy.

He said the book will be of great help to the future growth of the country.

Criticising the Modi government, Singh said: "Montek has pointed out that contrary to what the ruling group may say, today, the $5 trillion economy by 2024-25 is wishful thinking. Also there is no reason to expect that farmers' income will be doubled in a three-year period."

He also hailed the role played by former Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao, former finance minister P. Chidambaram and Ahluwalia, for supporting his liberalisation of the economy in the 1990s and enabling him to carry out the reforms despite resistance from different quarters.

No way Sir. Its happening world wide . If the purpose of your speech is to revive the Cong party, then I am sorry. You will have to justify why RaGa lost in Amethi and fled to Wayanad to win on Muslim votes in a constituency no one including RaGa heard in their life time. Also the 2nd consecutive wash out in Delhi, with 63 of 67 candidates losing their deposits. Its better you respectfully retire from this ''what ever you call it'.

MMS may be educated and a nice gentleman. With all due respect , MMS lacked leadership qualities. Thats where he lost all his integrity and prestige and was mocked world wide for being mute. The US magazine 'Time' called him an 'underachiever'. All this because he never opened his mouth for the numerous scams in his period. Remember the humiliation he had to face when RaGa tore his ordinance in the parliament. Also being ignored by Sonia when he did 'Namaste' and hunting for a vacant chair in a meeting when ideally he had to chair it , his chair was occupied by his boss, Also shaking hands with Kashmiri terrorist Yasin Malik. The best was he could have resigned and retired when Cong lost in 2014 . Now these occasional speeches at the behest of his Madame makes him look even more disgraceful when Cong is rejected nationwide and shows no sign of revival,.

You conveniently seem to have forgotten that the same Time magazine called our current PM 'Divider in Chief' and also how president Trump had mocked him on funding a library in Afghanistan.

Slowdown is global uncle. So like RaGa said 'look at the world NOT from your position, but look at the world from your position'.

Look who is talking...MMS seems to be seeking attention. He is in the news more these days than when he was in the office. Happy that BJP is teaching people to talk.

Yes Sir. Like you pretended NOT to notice Rahul tearing up YOUR Government's Ordinance in public, calling it 'Nonsense', and burying what was on the President's table for his signature right then, thus insulting the President too, when you meekly withdrew it.

Dr. Manmohan, is a jewel. Architect for India to earn its economical might. He put the country in right path of progress and development. Yes, he was a congressmen and he will remain so.

Today, after 6years of Modi rule, Indians have realized how much wrong they were about Dr. Singh. Modi ruined everything, that built over past 70 years and today India, is crumbling all because of economic slowdown and social unrest. The govt., is sleeping and still in its howdy Modi mood, building brick walls to hide slums.

It is impossible and impracticable to make bhakths who believe more on Godse than Gandhi, to realize the fact that India is weakening and weakened significantly. Probably, that is what they want. But, for India to progress, it must disassociate with such bhakths and let them bark in isolation.

Identifying the real problem is feature of a intelligent person, be it a doctor or engineer or any professional and suggest exact cure for that problem. Modi Govt believe in stupid and idiot explanations from his sweet mouth experts. Our PM is such a dumb that he believes in whoever praise him, May be it is President Trump and hide the real picture
