Udupi: Government medical college of district may come up at Kolalagiri

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Feb 4: As per the proposal of the government, each of the districts is eligible for a government medical college. A proposal was recently sent to the government by identifying 20 acre plot at Kolalagiri near here for this purpose. Once the government gives its nod for the same, further processes will begin.

In the past, there was a proposal to set up government medical college next to Brahmavar Sugar Factory. As per rules, government medical college should be established within ten km radius from the district hospital. Therefore, Kolalagiri has been preferred.

Raghupati Bhat

If the medical college is established in the district, students who are unable to meet high fee structure of the private colleges can undergo education here instead of seeking other courses. Moreover, with the establishment of medical college, infrastructure at the district hospital will improve, and the hospital would be able to cater to the needs of patients in a better way as they always will have access to professional doctors.

At present, this district has one private medical college at Manipal. There is also a demand to sanction government nursing and para medical colleges to the district and people's representatives had raised this demand many a time.

MLA K Raghupati Bhat, expressed the confidence that the government will soon give its nod for setting up medical college at Kolalagiri. State medical education minister Dr Ashwath Narayan, also said that in tune with the government's desire to have government medical colleges in all the districts, such a college will soon come up in Udupi district.

We regret to say that in Mangaluru we have sold vast previous land for private hospitals and for IT companies. Though we have such a big two government hospitals in the district head quarter, so many Community Healthy Centres, Primary healthy centres, Nursing Homes, Private hospitals, we did not had concious to get a Medical College in DK.

We have only one Govt Engineering College, NITK and NMPT were started by Late Srinivas Mallya. We don't have Govt Medical College, no govt buses are running the district. KSRTC says, they are ready to run KSRTC buses between Mangaluru-Udupi but NH-66 is not nationalised. Our leaders are here just for Road Show.

When we will get Govt. Medical college to Mangalore !. We are a district of intelligent people, but still not able to get one government medical call. All the regions in the north and middle Karnataka got medical college. Koppal, Gadag, Hassan, etc. Incidentally, the central government made a provision in the new budget that the government hospital will be given to the private as a PP model. We have private medical college sharks waiting for Wenlock and Lady Goshen hospital( two of the beautiful hospitals of Mangalore) to take over. Our MLA, MP, MLC fight over the pump well flyover and someone wants to jump from it. When we will jump and get a Government medical college to Mangalore. Our poor students and get a free medical education.

How MLA Bhat got permission for Udupi district which was started recently and not South Kanara district which probably celebrating 100 years now.

No liberals, leftist, rightist, middlist , east- west south- north top, and bottom are fighting for this

Why our MP, MLA, MLC are not listening and seeing are they blinded by someone or something

does this mean that unless mangalore gets a govt medical college, udupi shouldnt get one.. such a cheap mentality. Mangalore is developed partly due to the people of udupi who invested in mangalore. so many business men and entrepreneur's from udupi have invested heavily in mangalore and helped it to develop but udupi is developed solely due its own people.. so be grateful to the people of udupi.

MLA Raghupathi Bhat was against the upgradation of the government Mother and child hospital to state of the art air conditioned international hospital. Today, people from four districts come to udupi to get treated in the hospital. Now he has stopped the construction of super speciality government hospital in the same complex in Udupi which would have benifittted so many people. I dont think he has good intention in serving the people. He should not be involved in the medical college establishment.
