Mangaluru: BJP's awareness convention on CAA with 1.5 lac participants

Mangaluru, Jan 22: A mega convention is being held on January 27 at Goldfinch ground at Kulur in the city to spread awareness about the provisions of Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). The meet will also congratulate Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and union home minister, Amit Shah, for implementing the act.

Dakshina Kannada district BJP president and MLA Sanjeeva Matandoor, gave this information at a press meet he addressed here on Tuesday January 21.

The convention will be held from 3 pm that day. Union minister for defence Rajnath Singh, will congratulate the Prime Minister and home minister. State BJP president and MP, Nalin Kumar Kateel, Dakshina Kannada district in-charge minister Srinivas Poojary, several state ministers, BJP legislators from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, and MLCs will participate, he added. Matandoor said that one of the purposes of organizing this awareness convention is to clear doubts or confusions people may be having about the act.

100 persons from each of the 1,861 booths in Dakshina Kannada and 1,000 booths in Udupi district will participate. The number of participants might well be nearly 1.5 lac, he said. He also said that various organizations are supporting this initiative and everyone is invited to be part of the convention. "Preliminary preparations are being made at Goldfinch ground. We request businessmen and industrialists to close their businesses for the day after 3 pm and take part in the above programme, he said.

Sanjeeva Matandoor also demanded for early arrest of the culprits behind planting of bomb at the airport here and to bring to the fore the anti-social elements which worked behind this act.

District BJP president-designate Sudarshan M, MLAs Vedavyas Kamath and Dr Bharath Shetty, former MLC Monappa Bhandary, and city corporator Sudheer Shetty Kannur, were present.

In the meanwhile, speaking at Udupi, district BJP president Mattaru Ratnakar Hegde, said that about 30,000 to 35,000 people from that district will take part in the said convention.
