Mangaluru, Jan 13: Former minister and Mangaluru constituency MLA U T Khader called the state government ‘confused’ and said it has ‘lost control over the administration.’
Addressing media here on Monday, January 13, U T Khader said, "Government has still not provided compensation for the losses incurred during the recent natural calamities. Even the funds are not sanctioned for beneficiaries of housing scheme. The beneficiaries are waiting for the construction of their houses under the housing scheme.”
"Winter session has not yet been held. It was supposed to be held at Belgaum and later it was planned in Bengaluru. But till today, winter session is not conducted. Apart from winter session, joint session in the month of January, where governor is supposed to address is not conducted. If such is the case, where and with whom can we discuss the problems of the people and get answers for the same? We demand for the session to be conducted. I am not aware about the problems that have led to the delay in the session being conducted. Government needs to answer,” said Khader.
“Today, the whole district is in confusion and an atmosphere of fear prevails among people due to lack of clarity. When Asha representatives, Anganwadi workers, BLO's or any other officials visit houses, people are not ready to open their door thinking that the officials have come to register for NRC. So far it has not been implemented in the state and officials are not sent for NRC registration. The district administration should clear the confusion among people that no official has been appointed for the registration of NRC,” he said and urged people to co-operate with government officials during their house visits.
"Home minister Amit Shah says that we won’t step back in implementing NRC, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi says we won’t implement NRC. Why are they giving different statements and creating confusion among people? They should inform people the truth whether it will be implemented or not and the process that will be undertaken,” said U T Khader.
When asked about Kanakapura chalo, Khader said, "I do not know what to say with regard to the mentality of those who oppose the construction of the Jesus statue at Kanakapura. The land was provided by the cabinet after all legal process. Did they misuse the land? There was not a single instance where they have misused anything provided to them. Christian community is always at the forefront in contributing to the society and the country in terms of education and health and we should not forget the contribution made by the Christian community.”
When questioned on why he criticizes Pumpwell flyover when Ombathukere housing project is still on hold, Khader said," The locals have registered the complaint and matter regarding Ombathukere housing in the court. However, Pumpwell is a public road and has become an inconvenience to all. Did we give the dates for Pumpwell flyover completion? They had given the date on January 1 which is now postponed. The project was taken up under government specifications. Meanwhile, the house allotment has not been done yet. We are planning to demolish houses at Omabthukere and build apartments instead.”
