Bengaluru: Oman Sultan's death - Karnataka govt declares state mourning on Jan 13

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Jan 12: The Karnataka government on Sunday January 12 declared a day's state mourning over the demise of
Oman's Sultan Qaboos Bin Said Al Said.

Sultan Qaboos passed away on January 10 at the age of 79, after ruling the Arab country for nearly five decades.

As per a notification issued by the state government, no official entertainment will be held on Monday January 13. The national flag will be flown at half mast throughout Monday at government offices.

The announcement comes hours after the union ministry of home affairs announced the state mourning in a message which was shared with the chief secretaries of all the states and the administrators of all union territories.

"His majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said Al Said, Sultan of the Sultanate of Oman passed away on January 10, 2020. As a mark of respect to the departed dignitary, the government of India has decided that there will be one day's state mourning on January 13 (Monday) throughout India," the message said.

"The national flag will be flown at half mast throughout India on the day of mourning and there will be no official entertainment on the day."

Sultan Qaboos's cousin Haitham bin Tariq Al Said was sworn-in on Saturday as his successor since the former had no heir.

Had there been Congress govt in Karnataka and they had done something similar, BJP would have hit the streets, created ruckus terming that Congress was appeasing Muslims and that Congress was 'Sick'ular etc. But that's the hypocrisy of BJP which their hallmark. They can go to any length and depths for their gains.

Nobody would have questioned BJP, had they not declared mourning for the death of Emir of Oman. But BJP would have surely not just questioned but resorted to theatrics on streets had this been done under Congress government.

@nazeer Hussain, before commenting read about the person you are commenting about. Everyone in the world respects him irrespective of religion except people like you who are born with hatred. Person like you are the poison for the world harmony. Everything is not about religion. Shame on you. Change your mind set.

    Shettre,
Sir, Getting into dirty Indian politics is totally unwanted here especially on the topic related to Late Sultan of Oman. Many of our brethren from coastal Karnataka earned and keep earning bread and butter for our families due to the wise administration installed by late HM Sultan Qaboos. Those of us who worked and lived in Oman know the value of late great leader who is universally respected for his policies and diplomacy. Let's us have some respect to the departed noble soul.
