Unnao, Dec 8: The Unnao victim's family has demanded that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath visit them and has refused to cremate the 23-year-old woman's body until then.
Although the victim's body reached the Unnao village on Saturday, the family has refused to cremate her until the CM vows to take stringent action against the accused. After suffering severe burn injuries followed by a cardiac arrest, the Unnao victim passed away on Friday. Her miserable state was brought on by five men on Thursday while she was on her way to Raebareli for a hearing of the rape case she had filed against them.
The family has decided to bury the body of the woman instead of cremating her. The body, wrapped in a white cloth reached the village under heavy security cover, around 9 pm on Saturday.
Her father strongly voiced for a Hyderabad-like encounter for the killers. He also demanded that CM Yogi Adityanath himself visits the family instead of ministers and promise action against the culprits.
Amid protests, two Uttar Pradesh ministers visited the family in Unnao on Saturday. Labour Minister Swami Prasad Maurya handed over a cheque of Rs 25 lakh as ex-gratia compensation to the father of the Unnao rape victim.
The two ministers met the family members and while condoling their daughter's death and assured the family of possible help for the future.
The post-mortem report detailed that the victim died of extensive burn injuries.
"There was no indication of the presence of any foreign body, poisoning or suffocation on the body of the woman during postmortem conducted this morning," one of the doctors at Safardunj hospital said.
The death of the victim has drawn strong protests and police officials tried to contain through water cannons in Delhi. Ministers visiting the victim's family were faced with heavy sloganeering and protests. A huge crowd gathered outside the residence of the victim, who demanded the leaders' retreat. The sloganeering continued for 15 minutes and police had to use force to drive away from the protesters after which the two ministers and the MP were taken to the victim's home, villagers said.
